BOHOL, Philippines - The provincial government of Bohol will start deploying all its resources starting this year in order to achieve a stable power and water supply here, government sources have told The Bohol Tribune Saturday.
Bulk water supply and development of inland power source are two top priority projects of Gov. Edgar M. Chatto, revealed Provincial Administrator Ae Damalerio during the "Kita Ug Ang Gobernador" radio program Friday.
"The provincial government will soon embark on a sustainable, efficient and reliable water supply project which will upgrade our local waterworks system," Damalerio said during the press briefing.
Damalerio expressed appreciation to the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) for its Advancing Philippine Competitiveness (COMPETE) Project with grants for a feasibility study of bulk water and sanitation project.
"Upon the request of the Provincial Government of Bohol, The Asia Foundation thru the “Advancing Philippine Competitiveness (COMPETE) Project” funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) – is providing technical assistance in the procurement of Consulting Services for the Feasibility Study for the Bohol Water and Sanitation (BWS) Project," according to ppp.gov.ph.
Earlier, the Provincial Development Council (PDC), in its full council meeting, approved and adopted the bulk water supply and its infrastructure requirement with the private sector and potential investors to partake in its development.
The provincial government is still in the process of reviewing the result of the study and will soon finalize the terms of reference for its procurement.
The bulk water supply Project -1 will include Cortes, Tagbilaran City, Dauis, Panglao and Baclayon, where water demand is expected to increase due to its fast growth and development.
Bulk water project 2 will cover the northern parts of Bohol, serving the towns of Trinidad, Talibon, Bien Unido, Ubay, CPG Island, Dagohoy, San Miguel, and other nearby municipalities.
This project, once completed, will provide adequate and efficient water supply to the entire province of Bohol.
Bohol's asset is its surface water and its watershed areas, Gov Chatto had said earlier.
Chatto assured the public that timelines for the completion of the water project have been slated in 2019.
Both Bohol power development plan and bulk water and sanitation project got the massive support of USAID under the COMPETE Project.
Under the Bohol Island Power Development Plan (BIPDP), the project consists of three frameworks, namely, Power Supply Plan (Generation Plan); Transmission Development Plan (TDP); Distribution Development Plan/s (DDP); and Electrification Plan
The PDC, according to Damalerio, has identified potential power source sites in the towns of Ubay, Alicia, and Jagna.
Damalerio said that the formulation of a long-term Bohol Island Power Development Plan (BIPDP) will ensure "security of supply – available when needed; reliability and resiliency (climate-proof) of supply and affordability (least-cost)."
He noted that the Province would welcome private sector investments for power facilities that are intended to install new capacity for meeting the baseload requirement of distribution localities starting in 2019.
The inland power source project will primarily gear for the purpose of selling it to the grid and will intend to serve the requirements of off-grid or other specific users in the island province of Bohol, according to Atty. John Titus Vistal, head of the Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO).
So far, the PDC has identified several potential sites for Power Supply Development, including Danao (Cantakoy Hydro Power); Loboc (Loboc Hydro Power); Balilihan (Janopol Hydro); Antequera (Inambacan); Garcia Hernandez (Upper and Lower Manaba); Jagna (Balili and Odiong); San Isidro (Caimbang); Duero (Alijawan); and Ubay (Gabi and Asinan).
