Book on Bohol churches launched in Travel Mart

Published December 9, 2001 by Bohol Sunday Post - A major event that highlighted the Bohol Pavilion in the 12th Philippine Travel Mart was the launching of a book on Bohol Churches, entitled: VISITA IGLESIA-Bohol: A Guide to Bohol Churches.

Published under the auspices of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, this scholarly and comprehensive guidebook is written by distinguished art historian Regalado "Ricky" Trota Jose.

The presence of major cultural afficionados from Manila and Bohol, who came to view the Bohol Pavilion and to avail themselves of the first copies of the book marked the launching on November 23.

NCCA Chairman Jaime Laya delivered a welcome address underscoring NCCA's commitment to the preservation of cultural heritage in the country and to the continuance of support for Bohol's cultural development plans.

Congressman Edgar Chatto, welcomed the audience in behalf of Gov. Erico Aumentado.

Bishop Leo Tumulak of the Diocese of Tagbilaran capped the welcome series by focusing on the remarkable gifts of Ricky Jose as a Church art historian and on the general content of the book. He also thanked all those who collaborated in its production - most especially the Dioceses of Tagbilaran, through the Diocesan Commission of the Cultural Patrimony of the Church, headed by Fr. Milan Ted Torralba; the Provincial Government of Bohol, through the Center for Culture and Arts Development or CCAD; and the NCCA.

After these speeches, Ricky Jose and the NCCA officially presented initial copies to the Diocese of Tagbilaran through Bishop Tumulak and to the provincial government through Vice-Governor Julius Herrera and Congressman Edgar Chatto.

About the book

VISITA IGLESIA: Bohol- A Guide to Bohol Churches takes the reader to more than forty churches in the island.

The visit to each church begins with a short historical introduction and continues with a guided tour around the church complex, from the façade to the retablo mayor and then to the convento and other related sites.

The richly illustrated text is complemented by an essay on historic church architecture in Bohol, a glossary of terms, and a full bibliography for die-hard culture buffs.

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
