The province weathered the crisis which hit the country last year after she bagged, three major national awards that made Bohol the country's most bemedalled province at the start of the new millennium.
Gov. Rene Relampagos, during his State-of-the Province Address, cited the year past a great accomplishment year for the Boholanos despite the low tide for development in most places in the country.
For the record, only Bohol got three national awards in one in the Galing Pook Awards, namely the Investment Promotion Program, the BALA Project and the Cultural Renaissance and Eco-Tourism. The province likewise grabbed several citations and awards with national prominence, the governor cited.
Another fete for the Boholanos was the unanimous choice of foreign funding agencies for Bohol to become a “pet for new initiatives and programs.†He cited the Gold Project and the USAID which picked Bohol as the pilot area for the localization of the peace process in the Local Peace Forum program of the office of the President.
Gov. Relampagos likewise cited the recent privatization of water and electric utilities which have started to reduce the corresponding rates as assured under the joint venture agreement with SALCON Group of Companies.
