Bohol mayors get cash gift from Pres. Arroyo
Published: December 24, 2006 by The Bohol Standard

The meeting called by Malacañang Wednesday with mayors from Bohol and some provinces from the Eastern Visayas region turned out to be a Santa Claus gift-giving with the President herself playing the legendary Christmas icon.

Forty-three town mayors led by Bohol Gov. Erico Aumentado shared light moments with the President in a luncheon meeting that was capped with the envelope distribution containing an estimated crispy bills amounting to P30,000 each.

A town mayor talking with the Bohol Standard refused to reveal the exact amount but he confirmed the receipt of cash gift from the President.

The invitation was also extended to Vice Gov. Julius Caesar Herrera and members of the provincial board. Tagbilaran City mayor Dan Neri Lim was also with the group but he said it has nothing to do with his reported political affiliation with the coalition of Lakas and Kampi.

“It was a social gathering and I have to respond to the invitation to say thank you to the President for her support for the development projects of the city,” Mayor said in a radio interview.

The Christmas spirit of sharing extended by Malacañang was, however, marred with the dirty political divisiveness when four town mayors were reportedly excluded in the meeting with the President.

The mayors “not invited” were Loon mayor Cesar Tomas “Yul” Lopez, Trinidad mayor Osias Flor, Guindulman mayor Oriculo “Ondoy” Granada and Panglao mayor Doloreich Dumaluan. These mayors are identified as “outside the camp” of Gov. Aumentado.

The President reportedly wanted to see the Bohol mayors to have a re-assurance that they will support her administration candidates in the coming May 2007 elections. Arroyo won in Bohol over her closest rival, the late Fernando Poe, Jr., with a whooping margin of 300,000 votes in the 2004 presidential elections. The figure was listed as the third largest winning margin of Arroyo against Poe in that election led by Cebu province posting over a million votes.

With Aumentado leading the group, speculation also ran high that the Wednesday meeting was a prelude for another push of the charter change to be definitely held right after the May 2007 elections.

To do this, Arroyo wants a sweep of her administration slate in the coming May polls.

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
