DPWH 3 to blacklist erring contractorBy Bob GaleroCITY OF TAGBILARANTHE 3rd Highway Engineering District will take action against the erring contractor responsible for the worsening road condition in the northern part of the province.
Assistant highway district Engr. Pedro Jimenez informed the members of the provincial board last Friday that his office is now collating the record of some contractors who have poor performance in undertaking projects in the district.
Jimenez appeared during the regular session of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan to explain the status of road construction within the jurisdiction of the Ubay-based DPWH 3, including the ongoing construction of the Inabanga Bridge project.
Provincial Kagawad Exequiel Madriņan, who is an engineer, questioned the repair works of the Poblacion Trinidad national road whose construction was reportedly completed a year ago.
Madriņan assailed the DPWH-111 over the defective road concreting in that area.
He also asked Jimenez if the erring contractors have been sanctioned by the DPWH 3.
The road concreting works of the Poblacion Trinidad area was criticized by the municipal officials of Trinidad owing to the presence of road cracks.
The cracks appeared because of the reported substandard use of construction materials.
In response, Jimenez said that DPWH 3 is now blacklisting the contractor responsible for the construction.
He said that his office was forced to undertake the repair works using its maintenance funds.
He also said that the contractor's remaining collectibles to the office are being withheld.
He said the contracted works which bear cracks was already beyond the warranty period.
