BAYAN warns GMA on peace negotiations
Published January 31, 2001 - Bohol Chronicle
Bohol militants have warned Pres. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to watch her steps; lest she may forget that the People Power II did not solely take place at the Edsa Shrine.
They also challenged her to scrap government's all-out war policy, for which the deposed Pres. Joseph Estrada had been attacked by the left, in dealing with the armed internal conflict.
Cause-oriented groups like Bayan said the resumption of the peace negotiators with the Communist Party of the Philippines, National Democratic Front, New People’s Army as well as the Muslim separatists can occur.
However, this can regain momentum only if the Arroyo’s reign will not articulate its predecessor's crush-them-all style, said Bayan secretary-general John Ruiz.
The vigilant organizations is convinced that one indication of Arroyo’s sincerity in reunifying the scandalized nation is the unconditional release of the country’s over 200 political prisoners.
About 13 captured suspected rebels have been padlocked inside the Bohol Detention and Rehabilitation Center.
Anytime this week, the Provincial Peace and Order Council once again meets to reassess sits anti-war priorities.
What have been achieved in an instant may not modify the social justice desired by the Filipino masses, Bayan said.
