Admin local poll bets must be Lakas member

The clarification was solicited as speculations spread fast that in the city, incumbent mayor Dan Neri Lim would likely get the party nomination with the backing of some Lakas stalwarts close to Pres. Arroyo.

Adding fuel to the speculation was the omission of former city mayor Jose Torralba, who is touted as the strongest bet that would challenge Lim’s reelection bid in May 2007.

Torralba is the city party chairman for Lakas CMD.

The wild stories tell about Lim getting the nod of Arroyo as Lakas official bet for the city with Aumentado also adopting the idea. Torralba will be prodded to stay put as transportation and communication assistant secretary given the task as project manager of the multi-billion Panglao airport project.

Lim won as city mayor in 2004 as an independent candidate but he was closely identified with the Partido ng Masang Pilipino of the deposed former president Estrada.

“Daghan sa mga mayor ang KAMPI ug kinahanglan usab kini nga masusi. A Lakas member should also be a member of good standing,” the governor added.

Selecting local bets will be done through a collective decision of the provincial party directorate which will be convened soon, Aumentado said.

In cases where there are contenders that belong to the same Lakas party, a convention will likely be conducted to select the official candidate, he further clarified.
