The negotiations between reelectionist Gov. Rene Relampagos and Rep. Erico Aumentado, over the gubernatorial post in Bohol finally bugged down in spite of effort of different sectors to search for a compromise.
The negotiations between reelectionist Gov. Rene Relampagos and Rep. Erico Aumentado, over the gubernatorial post in Bohol finally bugged down in spite of effort of different sectors to search for a compromise.
However, Rep. Ernesto Herrera, vice president for Visayas of the Lakas-NUCD, has not given up the
negotiating table, saying that the Lakas-NUCD party insists that only one of them will run for governor under the administration banner but both of them would not give way to the other.
The two timbers were supposed to meet with Herrera last Friday at 3 o'clock in the afternoon.  The scheduled talk, which was the fourth of a series of huddles, failed since Aumentado begged off due to pressing personal matters to be attended back home.
The last conference held among the two gubernatorial aspirants was last Thursday morning where bargaining chips failed to convince either one of them to accept the offer for a national position while the other will run for governor.
Herrera during an exclusive interview with the CHRONICLE said that he wants the matter to be decided fast in order to have better national posts still available  for Relampagos or Aumentado.
Aumentado asked that the huddle will be moved tomorrow, instead of last Friday afternoon.
The longer they decide, the lesser the positions to be left vacant for a Boholano to assume, Herrera said.
Gov. Relampagos who will be on his last term as governor appealed that he be given the way to finish his third term.  However, Aumentado maintained his uncompromising stand that his supporters reportedly want a change of the capitol leadership.
Herrera said he was not glad to hear that a smear campaign has started to surface amidst their gubernatorial bids for the May 14 polls.
The latest Bohol Poll results became the basis of the Aumentado- Relampagos verbal tussle last week which Herrera said should be avoided while the gubernatorial dispute has not been settled.
Although he is not yet giving up in the negotiation process, Herrera, however, confirmed that indeed he is getting a hard time in negotiating who will back out from the race and accept the offer for a national post.
He said that while they both have leaders and supporters, they should look beyond this 2001 election, and instead look for the best interest of the Boholanos.
APPEAL ISSUED

Meanwhile, a strongly worded appeal from a group of concerned Boholanos that only one of them (Relampagos-Aumentado should pursue the gubernatorial bid and the other to accept a political position so that the province will continue to benefit from the talents of both.
The appeal reminded the two that in any election, one has to win and the other is the loser.
"This is what we want you to avoid since Bohol needs both of you," the letter appeal stressed.
The appeal was finalized after a huddle with a ranking church official here, who reiterated his stand to respect lay initiative.
The appeal was issued last Thursday, a day after initial reports from Manila said that the negotiation was not leading one giving up the race.
The appeal read as follows: "AN APPEAL TO GOV. RENE L. RELAMPAGOS AND REP. ERICO B. AUMENTADO.  You represent the best Bohol can offer in terms of effective leadership that tantamount to the development of your province.  But the latest turn of events have brought you at the crossroads; consequently we are filled with anxiety considering that the future of Bohol is at stake.
“It is for this reason that we requested an audience with the Bishop for nuggets of thoughts that could guide us to the right move to make.  The entire province which you have led to its present development demands your continued leadership, that could be tarnished if you clash at the coming elections.  Although one of you will win, the other will lose.  This is what we want you to avoid.

"BOHOL NEEDS BOTH OF YOU"

"It is therefore our vehement request that one of you will accept a national position we heard being offered to any one of you.  We know that this might be a sacrifice on your part, but, certainly, a gain for every Boholano as both of you will be moving towards the same direction.
"This appeal we have made with the blessings of our Bishop who respects lay initiative, but this is our decision.  We cannot do much except to communicate with you our thoughts for the sake of Bohol.
"We thank the Almighty for providing you options that will mean betterment of the province.
"We join you in prayers for the Lord's wisdom to shine upon you."
Signatories of the appeal were Jose Ong, Couples for Christ; Rosalima Abapo, Catholic Women's League; Loy Palapos, Bohol Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc.; Beatria Balatero, Council of the Laity; Marjoe Magallano, Brotherhood of Christian Businessmen and Professionals; Wenefreda Flores, Bohol Association of Catholic Schools; and Paciano Sambalud, Catholic Charismatic Renewal Movement.

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
