1,000 meters extension of Panglao Airport Runway proposed
November 12, 2006 The Bohol Standard
THE Panglao International Airport Development Project Local Task Force passed a resolution recommending the approval of the proposed increase of 1,000 meters of the runway to the northwest side towards Lourdes, Panglao instead of towards barangay Danao.
This is what Atty. Jose Torralba, Department of Transportation and Communication assistant secretary, revealed last Friday, November 10, 2006 in time of the Consultation and Information Education Campaign Committee meeting.
This plan to increase the length of the runway of the proposed airport from the present 2,500 to 3,500 meters which is also recommended by Gov. Erico Aumentado is designed to accommodate international flights direct to Bohol.
Furthermore, the extension of the length of the runway of the proposed airport will be on the northwest side towards barangay Lourdes since the cost will be lesser as there are few structures or houses that will be affected and the Panglao Island Circumferential Road will not be affected.
According to Torralba, extending the runway of the present proposed airport site towards barangay Danao would need sizable amount for land acquisition and payment as it would traverse a densely populated area which has 150 households as per verification by the Municipal Assessor of Panglao.
Moreover, the land acquisition for the Panglao Bohol International will start as soon as possible to meet the 6 months timetable.
