Bran, look for used books in Amazon or Barnes and Noble. Also, do a research if such and such books have ebook versions. Most new books in Amazon have a corresponding ebook format, which is much cheaper compared to the print format.
Time will come that people will do away with printed books for two reasons: 1. it costs a lot to buy books 2. companies may soon realize that we have run out of trees to be used to produce paper.
The publisher of Oxford Dictionary, that's 74 Volumes and 62 Kilograms all in all, has just decided to abandon producing paper-based dictionaries. They will now reproduce the gigantic Oxford Dictionary in CDs, DVDs, and Online Content.
Britannica Encyclopedia has also stopped producing voluminous copies of its encyclopedias. Britannica has uploaded all its encyclopedia contents in its website.
Microsoft, the publisher of Encarta Encylopedia, has put all encyclopedia contents in its website.
Bran, Look for website of the publisher of your medical books. The publisher may be providing an option for online subscription for the books you need.
If you still have problems with costly books, send me a PM with authors and titles of books. My "techie" contacts may be able to bring food to the table.
