Visiting the Philippines for the First Time
« on: February 16, 2008, 01:43:44 AM »
The following pictures were taken by my good friend Joseph Noriek, he is also Filipino and a senior in college like me. Joe was adopted as a baby and has never been to the Philippines or seen his biological parents. His story is that of a heart warming one, and one that brings me tears just talking to him about it. He left for the Philippines (Manila) last summer 2007 and I was able to help him a bit in learning basic Tagalog.

I just wanted to share with you guys, his story, and his deep longing for the Philippines. Truly, when I say this, that our roots yearn to find the mother soil. Despite where we are in the present.

Joseph's Journey Back to the Philippines:

Joe in New York, with friends

Joe bringing baby materials for the orphanage that used to house him. This brought me to tears

Leaving Wisconsin

Destination: Manila, The Republic of the Philippines

In his own words, "..and some more of God's beautiful creation"

Landing in the 'Homeland'

 :'(

Joe and his friends; in Manila

The orphanage,  :'(

The Philippines

The children

The Orphanage

Some friends over there in Manila

I will try my best to get Joe to join Tubag Bohol. So he can be part of our Tubag Bohol family.

The thanks goes to Joseph Noriek, Mike. He is the one that took them, and his story is so different from many of ours, he doesn't know Tagalog (only some phrases), nor does he know family members in the Philippines. He was adopted by an American family, and is completely Americanized. But even with this--despite the fact that he was raised in middle America, exposed to all American things, culture, friends, family, love, etc.

In his heart, deep inside him, knew that he had to go back to visit where he came from. To see, with his own eyes, what his people look like.

I admire him, Mike, because he is very faithful. A religious guy, very intelligent and a good friend. And I believe that the Lord guided him back to the Philippines to see where he was from, to see the nuns and priests that took care of him when he was only a kid.

It brings me to tears, jud Mike. He didn't have to go to Philippines, he could have forgotten it as he has no living memory of it (besides that he was born to Filipino parents). But he went back.

It humbles me, Mike. So very much.
