The Yesteryears: Thoughts of The Past
« on: April 18, 2010, 11:04:28 AM »
As I sit in my table reviewing and reading, seeing where I have gone, what I have done and the people ive met, places seen, i cannot help but look back to the past, to where it all began. This venture into medicine began in summer 2003. In Georgetown University, under the visage of the National Youth Leadership Forum of Medicine. To see the faces of friends/colleagues in our youth. Oh where has 7 years gone?

I will start this thread for the appreciation of the past. And ponderous moments.

It was Spring 2007, I remember coming out of the Biology Building after Dr. Baross's Microbiology Class. I was feeling the need to explore the outdoors, so I borrowed a friend's kayak, and hitched it on my Green Mitsubishi. With the sun on my face, I drove to Conneaut Lake by Meadville and kayaked the lake end. Beautiful.

The wind on my face, the sight of blooming trees, and the geese in the water. Sweet air. Sweet feeling.

I think it was September of 2004. It was raining, I recollect now, quite a thunderstorm sweaped across the green grass lawns of Allegheny College. A group of us guys in my college dormitory decided to streak across that night, despite the thunderous drench of rain on our youthful heads. Oh it was intense.

My roommate Georgi and I joined the rest of the guys and slid down the sloped steps of the hillside ravine. Drenched in mud, grass, and rainwater. We devastated the carpetry of our dormitory hallways as we, all 15 or so of us, ran to the bathroom showers and cleaned ourselves. Leaving the entire bathroom drenched with mud, grass, and residues of all types.

It was a thrill that we would later recieve a lecture from our dormitory R.A. Ha ha ha ha.

Amantes, amantes, we were in freshman year. ;)

Dear Prudence, youthful woman whom was the center of my affection throughout middle school and high school. Lo, I may have competed with you in academics and taunted you with commentaries and debates in class, one thing was hidden from you. The fact that I had the greatest crush for you.

In Honors Biology Class, I would be relentless in my efforts, ever so eager to claim the highest grade in class, and repudiated all who dared to come across my high marks. Only one ever came close to reaching my marks, and it was you. A threat? Oh no, you were not seen as a threat, but a weakness on this man's eyes. The smirk on my face hid the deep longing I had for you when I was but a childish adolescent. 16 years old I was. 17 years old. Till graduation at 18.

And I remember that one time you scored the highest in one exam. 100 percent and I was second in rank with a pitiful 97 percent. Oh but it did not phase me, for you said to me, "Don't worry, you'll get it next time." Was that a competitive challenge? Deign i thought it was. And ever so much inspired in me to acquire perfection yet again. Did you know that scoring 100 percent was merely a means to impress upon you? Oh my childish antics of my youth.

I must confess, Prudence, I remember the one time you came to me and whispered to my ears. And softly gently laid a kiss with your pink moist lips on my cheeks.

Now you know. If, that is, you find this confession.

A old flame,
Brando

To the woman whose heart I hurt,

You expressed your love for me by the cobbled streets of Walker Annex. Some many years ago. It was December 2006.
But I did not feel the same way, and offered you my friendship and love. Yet you did not want mere friendship.
Why did you take my answer as some kind of rejection, so as much to spurn me to the side. And I saw the anger of your eyes that next day.

I gazed into your deep blue eyes. Gorgeous blue eyes. And your dirty blonde hair. Yet they were filled with anger and tempest agression on me, your friend.

Did I deserve this anger for not returning affectionate romantic love? My dear, I wish it could have turned out better for the two of us, at least remained cordial friends. Forgive me for not returning love that you offered me. If you could ever find it in your heart to forgive me in the future.

I pray to God that your ways and steps are straight. And that good measure follows you.

Best,
Brando.

My beloved and adored Lolo Ciano (Casiano Salise Salvo Sr) and I.
He holds me, his grandson, when I was only 1 years old (and couple of months).
Seeing this photo makes me cry because it reminds me that when I was but a child, he carried me with his bear hands.
Gi pinanga ko sa ahong Lolo. And now in his old age, in his golden years, I was honored enough to care for him with my own hands.
How blessed is the gift and blessing of being able to see your grandchild grow into manhood.
And the blessing it is for a grandson to see and talk to his grandfather whom loves him with all of his heart and soul.

Lolo Ciano, I love you!!

Your Apo,
Bran

Filial Piety: Respect and Honor your Mother and Father

And yet while we were still children, my mom and dad, adored us both and showered us with all the love and gifts of parenthood.
Seeing this picture I am recalled to remember that God is alive in the Family.
This picture was taken when we still lived in the Philippines. I love the barong that I wore. I chose that even at such an early age. My baby sister, Lorraine, is so adorable. Baby cute.

Freshman Swing Dancers

Throughout college I was a member of the SDS (Swing Dance Society), though I was a mediocre one. I will always remember this time of my life as a time of self identification, personal growth, and academic prowess. It was in this time of my life that I made life-long friendships and personal rewards.

I remember the time when a partner of mine, Amber, was so greased up (from the sweating), note that when we danced, we would dance for hours,--until the music stopped playing--and one time she literally slipped off my hands. Landed on the floor. I picked her up. And continued on for another round or two.

Swing dance practice was usually at Fridays from 7pm till 12 midnight. Crazy.
I can still remember finishing lab at Fridays, then grabbing lunch and then running across campus to pick up my partner. Then take her to practice. 5 hours later, drenched in sweat, then relax. ha,

Loved it.

Today I thought of my Lolo Ciano and my Lola Nating. Sweet memories. What I would do to go back in time just to hear Lola Nating's voice again.

How i miss how she would call me, "Ondoy Bran Bran, dali na ondoy, mo tug na ta! Dali na Ondoy..."

Miss you.
