Meet two respected Boholanas from Tokyo
« on: June 21, 2008, 05:15:37 PM »
Today, I was invited to a luncheon party tendered by the ABS-CBN Global honcho Raffy Lopez at a posh retaurant in Tokyo. As usual, about half of the crowd of TFC dealers, media and guests were Bisdaks. Again--and this is something I have come to anticipate in every Filipino gathering--I met two well-respected Boholanas.

First, I would like to introduce Josie Nistal, a community leader in Tokyo, who hails from Dauis, Panglao. Born Josie Bernales Aranjuez, she grew up in Mabini before her family moved to Dauis, where, it turns out, we are neighbors. Josie is the president of the Samahang Pilipino, the oldest and longest-running association of Filipinos in Tokyo composed mostly of household and embassy staff of the diplomatic community here. She is concurrently the president of the Boholano Association in Japan, which has at least 20 members, and was organized under the auspices of then Press Information Officer and Boholana Delia Balite. Josie is the chef for the ambassador of Luxembourg to Japan the Honorable Paul Steinmetz. Josie is formally trained in European cuisine, a skill which she is planning to put to good use in the future when she develops her sprawling property in Panglao as a resort. Mubisita kuno siya sa Tubag Bohol karong gabii aron tan-awon ang pictures. Welcome to TB, Josie. Please feel free to post your ideas and meet the wonderful people of TB...

Josie and I were surprised to find out, later in the party, that the wife of Consul General Sulpicio Confiado, Madam Prescilla Ramo Opus Confiado (second from left in photo below), is also a Boholana who hails from Baclayon. I have known ConGen Confiado, a very low-key official notwithstanding his important position next only to the ambassador, for sometime now. But it was my first time to meet his wife and learn that she is also a Boholana.

ABS-CBN Global Chief Operating Officer Raffy Lopez profusely thanked the Filipinos in Japan for enthusiastically receiving its new product offering, the internet-based TFCko, where programs can be downloaded according to one's convenience.

As in any lively party, it was Bisdak (and adopted Bisdak) galore during this luncheon.

Thanks, Bene san for this thread.  I hope that Josie will join us here.  I have so much respect on chefs!

As to Madam Prescilla Ramo Opus Confiado, the family name Opus is quite prominent in Bohol.  I just wonder if she is in any way related to Nong Nacing Opus and Louie Opus.

I'll ask the honorable Congen sometime. Taga-Baclayon na sila? Basta Bohol ang origin, I'm sure related na sila. Kani kuno si Madame Priscilla Confiado, sometime during her youth, the family moved to Tacloban. But their ancestral abode remains beside the cathedral in Tagbilaran.

I'll keep on posting sanos and sanas that I meet so that our circle here at TB will be enlarged. Josie has invited me to a riverside picnic her organization, the Samahang Pilipino, will hold on June 29 in Tokyo. Basig maka-meet na pud kog mga Bol-anon.

Arigato, Bene san!

I remembered you as I talked with Josie. She said she trained at a culinary school near Forbes, and studied European cuisine as well in Tokyo. You can just imagine what topnotch gourmet she is. Pa-sample nato ining mubisita siya sa Tagbilaran.

I'm always on the lookout for Boholanos, ever since I got to join TB and my wife and kids moved there. It has become a natural bond.

I wish i have your Job Benne san! (ambisyosa ra kaajo ;D)

Can't make this job your bread and butter, but it gives you contact to a wide range of people. It's really the small clients and the hard-working but unknown entrepreneurs who bring food to my table and pay for my kids' tuition. We just have to thank God for all His blessings.

Eat and eat! lol Bitaw, cooking is very therapeutic!  It's so nice to cook something that looks so complicated and yet so easy to make! hahaha I once made this French pastry with tongue twisting name and it was just easy to make - as easy as eating nilugaw!
