There was an unusual urgency to pray at the moment I left my room. I usually talk to the Lord before I leave my room. But last Saturday was different - God wanted me to pray for safety with so much sense of urgency.
Walking to the main highway, I lifted my eyes to the heaven and said: "Father God, panalipdi intawon ko sa akong pagbyahe karon. Ilikay ko sa mga kadautan ug katalagman. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen."
Every weekend I move out from our campus and stay in Bangkok for my teaching and study sessions. Travel time to Bangkok from my place may take up to 3 hours.
I was standing on the shoulder of the highway, waiting for a public van. Fifteen minutes later, I saw a speeding van and I flagged it down. Tailing the van was a speeding bus.
It was so stupid of the driver of the van: he made a sudden left-turn on a one-way road, crossing the highway purposely to pick me up without paying attention that a bus was just a meter or two behind him.
I almost screamed but my breathe stopped because 10 - 15 meters away from me I saw the van that was about to be hit by the bus - but the bus quickly swerved to the left - and it went straight to where I stood. Frozen.
With my eyes closed, being shocked, being terrified - in a millisecond - I mustered all my strength, swung my body, and leaped away to the farthest spot I could reach so that the bus couldn't hit me. I had my laptop bag and cloth bag with me, so I was heavier. I felt the bus's speed generating deathly air that swept on my skin.
Three hours earlier, I was trying to console my sorrowful girlfriend who has been weeping for a week, grieving over the death of her younger sister last Sunday.
"I could die today, and it may be more devastating to you," I told her. "Don't look at death according to the world's perspective - but according to God's perspective - that those who put their trust in Christ Jesus for their salvation have eternal life, and will be resurrected on Christ's second coming, and there will be a great reunion in heaven for all the believers in Christ," I said to her.
I could have died on that day - but God saved me.
Thank you, Lord Jesus.
