The pleasure is mine, but the Honor goes to God. :)

Any difficulty that comes to us is nothing, remember that. Are but mere challenges, mere hurdles that Divine Providence gives us to strengthen us, to mold us.

I live by a philosophy of optimism and complete trust in Him. We are weak, alone, but in light of the Grace of God, who works in us and inspires us and enlivens us through the Holy Spirit, we are made capable. Whatsoever the path Divine Providence leads us to.

Inday, always, always remember this verse in scripture that I keep so very close to my own heart:

I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.
-Philippians 4:13

It went well, Thanks be to God, we were allotted 15 minutes to present our cases, but I ended up going over 22 minutes. hahaha. I wanted to focus on the importance of the genetic defect on the BLM gene, which is a subtype of the DNA Helicase family--which is important for the DNA repair, replication, transcription processes. As a result of this, we see the obvious signs of clinical symptoms: High affinity for oncological onset (carcinoma), short stature, short limbs, low affinity for food, infertility for men, decreased fertility and reproductive span for women, etc.

The unfortunities of this syndrome is that there is no cure, no absolute treatment for the condition itself as it is a genetic one. We can, however, only provide symptomatic treatment.

Thanks for asking, mi companero. I thought I did alright, by God's Grace.

Today I had my first experience of a 'communication gap' lol. I was in the hospital for our mandatory volunteering hours that 1st and 2nd years are required to complete. Last week I did my time in the GI floor, so this week I requested to be in the ER. The attending physician and senior students showed us proper suturing techniques (as if I didn't know already, lol, thanks to Gross Anatomy and Vascular Anatomy lab). But anyways, I had the honor in doing a small suture in mediolateral aspect of the patient's forearm. The cut was rather superficial; merely adipose damage, nothing below that tho. I was expecting to hear that she had median to ulnar nerve damage; but seeing the wound, it wasn't that deep.

She spoke in Spanish. No English at all. Thank the Lord for myself being able to understand and speak Spanish; and to think there are people who actually think Learning Spanish is unnecessary. lol.

Ya. Right.

I guess the pigeon is on under training for targeting a certain area by using his poop instead of missile, the pigeon got wrong for his calculation when dropping it while he was flew at the speed of 40 km/hr.

Why is there drama in every academic institution.

There was drama in high school, sure there was drama even in college.

But why is there drama in a Medical College?

Rather annoying, to be honest.

I want to take these exams now!!
Been reviewing for the upcoming Medical Physiology and Med Gen, Biochem and Surgical Neuroanatomy exams for over 3.5 weeks now. It has come to the point that I am loosing it, lol. I had a review session all this week, and it has become obvious to me and to my friends that we need to take this exam now! It is set for Friday and Monday.

I assure you having 4-5 hours of sleep everday for the past 2 weeks is not good. For the past 4 days I have had no more than 2 hours sleep.

I assure that it is not of my own liking, but due to the demands of the excessive material we are given, it is necessitated that we yield to study. And surrender sleep. I do, however, plan on having a nice sleep on Thursday night. My medical partner in surgicla neuroanatomy, Job, has had little to no sleep. Hahahaha, actually, it is hilarious when we had Neuroantomy class yesterday---there were 30 or so students. The 70 or so students took the day off to study some more. puahahahaha.

That or getting rest.

My Life in Pictures:

The concept of the MHC and immunological defense complex.
If only our professor explained it better. Thus, one is left teaching himself the complex. There is about 20 pages worth of information in the book on it (which prof will test us in), but he only covered no more than 3 minutes of it in class. LOL!!!

My hand angers in the, MHC!

A face of a man who hasn't touched  nor had sleep, lol.

Hmm. This looks scary. LOL!

LOL! Ask Ate Ethyl ;)

You know I asked my friends why docs write like that. Then i realize that the answer lay in class. When we go to class, we have to write fast as our professors talk fast, and give info like a speeding bullet.

In 2 semesters time, I have already begun to understand 'illegible writing'

Sometimes galing, instead of writing sentences, we write partial sentences that only we can understand. Us acronyms.

Example lang:

The patient who came in the Emergency room was suffering from Refractory shock, had a BP that was below 120/80. Was unconscious, and bleeding; later diagnosis indicates cerebral ischemia, reduced cardiac output despite cardiotonic drugs indicates minimalizaton of heart. Pure Blood plasma has been initiated, but due to free radicals accumulation, stagnation of blood continues due to precapillary spastic activity. Prognisis is bleak. Patient given palliative treatment. Talk to family about onset.

Our professor would say this to us out loud, and we would write this out. So we develop techniques in writing fast. One can write really sloppy (which sometimes i do), that or use partial sentences that no one else beside the doc can understand;

this is how we would re-write this:

Uncon pat-ER: Suffering-REFSHOK. BP<120/80.
uncon pat-bleed; cerebisch. Low CO. Digitalis/Cardiotonic no show.
Transfusion started; positive feedback. Stangation freerad
Palliative-Patient.

I got my exam results today. ;D

God IS Great!

The feeling of complete satisfaction, knowing you studied your butt off for exams, and getting grades that you aimed for,  is the best reward.

But as always, All the Glory, Honor and Praise goes to God. And to Him alone.

Today was a good day, just a long day in neuroanatomy lab.

Some colleagues and I had difficulty in opening the cranial structures of one cadaver, and had to result in manual opening. The specimen was in excellent form, tho, we were able to properly study the midbrain, and associated structures.

We, the unwilling, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have done so much, for so long, with so little, we are now qualified to do anything with nothing.

Yes, the cranial saw wasn't working today, so we had to use a regular heavy-duty anatomical saw.

We had to retract the anteroposterior muscles of the skull, after de-scalping the specimen.

We utilized an old school 'muscle-by muscle' technique to open the skull. Retrieval of the brain was brilliant, actually, the entire specimen was preserved perfectly by formalin.

We surgically opened the midbrain and hindbrain; observing the mesencephalon, diencephalon, the hippocampus, hypothalamus, thalamus and associated tracts.

Before we opened the skull tho, we gave gave a moment of silence and respect to the cadaver for honoring us with use of its body.

Without whom, knowledge would be limited.

Today is the weekend. 2:36 Am diri. I was in the lab today with some colleagues helping the anatomy professors to prepare the new batch of cadavers for use next semester. We received 10 more bodies, and we were asked to help Dr. Cooper and Dr. Raj to sequester formalin.

I'm so frigging tired. We just got out around 1:00 AM my time.

I can't sleep. lol.

Glacier, its really nothing. T.A is just a teacher's assistant. 4 of us were asked to T.A next semester for medgross anat if students need help w/ structures, we are asked to come in in lab at least once a week.

I accepted because i really love anatomy class. One way i can try to help out with my limited knowledge on anatomy, and at the same time maintain the limited knowledge and even learn some more. I try to help, and at the same time am helped in the process.

One of the main jobs of a T.A is to help prepare the cadavers, and preservation of the samples for anatomical exposition. This means we are to help the instructur(s) in removing the excess materieal on the outer layers and expose the large muscles in the upper limb, lower limb, thorax/abdomen and the skull. In my batch, Glace, we only had 1 T.A volunteer to help out and our instructor had to be in lab 5 days (as we are divided into groups due to the large class of my batch). So some of us talked about volunteering.

I know when we were studying the brachial plexus last year--we were looking for a T.A to help us in identifying/correcting something--but didn't have the opportunity. Instead we only had 1 lab instructor who had to some 30-40 students per group. Now at least next semester, there will be a T.A for ever 8-10 students.
