Last week, when I was at orientation week, I really was turned off by one individual who was very boisterous in the hospital where we where introduced at.
There was one attending physician who was in the floor where we, MD1 students, were shown around. Since we, as MD1 students, will be expected to attend the hospital and volunteer at least 1 day a week; in the weekday or weekend.
The physician in question was in the background talking to one of the nurses as our medical director, The Dean of Basic Sciences, was explaining the setting, our basic responsibilities etc. This particular attending physician was being rude to some of us MD1 students and to the nurses.
I wanted to just admonish him for his arrogant tone. Just because he has his Medical Doctorate does not mean he can talk down to others, especially if those are students. I had to restrain myself in addressing this individual; perhaps he was abused when he was an MD1 student.
Whether a person has a 'Dr' in front of their name does not make them any higher than a person with a mere Mr. or Mrs or Ms in front of their name.
It feels so good just to let it out.
