Bililhong Gasa Gikan ni Tatay, Papa ug Lolo: Lessons, Stories and Things

Kada gabii, especially when watching TV, I sit on the "handay-handayan" of my late father, that reclining chair with long arms.

MY FATHER'S CHAIR
(Lyrics and Music by Rick Springfield)

My Father's Chair still standing there
All alone since the long night
Now it's three years on and I still feel
He'll come home, we'll be alright

So where's this healing time brings
I was told the pain would ease
But it still hurts like the first night

That night my brother, my mother and I
Were looking up at a distant star
And wishing we could reach that far

And back in the house
And alone for the first time
We told each other we cared
We avoided My Father's Chair

I watch my family, we hold on
We are strong and we'll be alright
The clock continues counting down, all the while
And every child will share the long night

But do the spirits meet again
Why am I still so filled with doubt
Is my soul everlasting

And the far distant future
When I knew you'd be gone
Came too fast and stays too long
Why do they leave the weak of spirit
And take the strong

When the world turns sour
And I get sick from the smell
And I can't find no comfort there
I climb into My Father's Chair

This thread is dedicated to our respective fathers and grandfathers.

  • Aya san, rest in peace. I will always miss you...

To give hope to the needy, sick, hopeless, homeless and the like is one lesson I learned from my Tatay Macar.

Daghan pa sumpay sa sunod na pod...

My father taught me the basics of carpentry. Panday man gud to siya. There is a village in my hometown nga siya gyud ang nagpanday especially sa mga balay nga natukod in the 60s and 70s. As a result, I was the only one in my Grade 6 class nga naka 95% sa vocational education subject kay pamanday man kasagarang project namo kaniadto.

ug lain" -  Got it as a working student with the moral support of my
                                                  late Father.

nga   wala  kay Oten nga mabali" -  Careful enough until I met the
man who gave me his Name.

grasya ug kaayo." -  Though it is hard enough....am happy to do my best.

-  He ain`t heavy, he is my brother! ...and
he makes me smiles all the time with his hugs and
                                                                      loving jokes.

Sorry, wrong description and pls.  don`t misunderstood my reell point towards your thread.  Never I announced and indicated myself that I  belong to this category.  Am just a simple, poor Filipina  "nga ang pislat nga ilong na-a sa tunga sa nawong."   Mao man to ang  silbing pahinumdom sa ahong Lola nga dili pataka ug tikang-kang  bisan unsa pa ka gwafo ang mopasalig nga  mangingiyotay.  So far, it was kept in mind ...di man mabali diay, mabawog ra man.  ;D

In relation to the first message of this thread, here's another song of the same title. Listen to this in youtube.

MY FATHER'S CHAIR
(Performed by David Meece)

Sometimes at night I'd lie awake
Longing inside for my father's embrace
Sometimes at night I'd wander downstairs
And pray he'd returned, but no one was there.
Oh, how I'd cry, a child all alone
Waiting for him to come home.

Chorus:
My father's chair, sat in an empty room
My father's chair, covered with sheets of gloom
My father's chair through all the years
And all the tears I cried in vain
No one was there in my father's chair.

Sometimes at night I sit all alone
Drifting asleep in a chair of my own
When sweet sleepy eyes peer down from the hall
Frightened by dreams they cannot recall
I hold them close, calming their fears
Praying they always will say,

Chorus:

My father's chair sits in a loving room
My father's chair, no matter what I do
My father's chair, through all the years
And all the tears I need not fear
Love's always there in my father's chair.

Sometimes at night I dream of a throne
Of my loving God, calling me home
And as I appear, He rises and smiles
And reaches with love to welcome His child
Never to cry, never to fear
In His arms, safe and secure.

Chorus:
My Father's chair sits in a royal room
My Father's chair holds glory beyond the tomb
My Father's chair, my God is there
And I am His eternal heir
Someday I'll share my Father's chair.
