Would men have rights to refuse to clean in their respective domestic vicinity because they are keeping the male images?

Totally wrong, at least educated and decent men do not think that household works only belong to women.

How could you assume such postings Ondoy? I don´t subscribe  to this and I think you must  think twice about posting  this controversial issue.
We are born equal and it is not stamped on males head that they are exempted from all household work. This assumption is a  mediocre.

We cook-they eat; we clean-they dirty; we iron-they wrinkle.

Why do men whistle when they're sitting on the toilet?
Because it helps them remember which end they need to wipe.

diba mas ok  na while the husband is asking his wife how could he be of help eh nakayapos sa babae habang naghuhugas ng pingan, sabay bulong ng ganito, "pagkatapos niyan dear, ikaw naman ang huhugasan ko" hehehe

kidding aside, husbands helping wives doing house chores by asking first could serve many purpose; to help in house chores and make use of that moment as an intimate bonding moments. while husband is helping in the house chores, why not turn it as perfect bonding moment? maganda yung may pasakalye muna siempre para di naman masyadong mechanical. do you want your husband to immediately jump with you on the bed without any foreplay? i simply doubt it.

In my opinion, I dont see providing the means for the family that a husband can be excempted from doing house hold chores. In fact a husband, having a fulltime housewife should help more in household chores esp. if the family couldn't afford a helper because housewife is a 24/7 profession, unlike us husbands who have a fixed working hours. If husbands have a day or 2 of dayoffs, perhaps, relieving our wives or helping them will not be much of a problem even for a working husbands.
Again, as I have said make use of this time as perfect bonding times with our wives, trust me on this. Been there, done that, that's why my wife loves me so much. Imagine, my wife telling me na mas handsome pa daw ako kaysa kay Piolo Pascual? ;D It really works, promise :D

Preposterous. Man and Woman are equal. In the workplace and in the home.
The two are always equal, from the beginning, to the end.

The woman contributes more, in the biological sense, since she bears the child and delivers the child. (us men will never understand or comprehend the excrusiating pain in child delivery--that our wives, spouses had/have/will endure)

It is up to the man to pamper the woman and  respect her.

After all, she will bear and guarantee us, the man, our sacred progeny and Line.
Our genetic re-constituents.

Oi Datu,FYI it does'nt  mean that if men will participate the household works" nga under de Saya siya nga pagkabana" Its only during  middle of the twentieth century that there was a clear division of labor between men and women. The man’s role was to go out to work  and provide for the family, the woman’s role was to be a housewife and mother, looking after home and family. But in today's generation, housework is not only for woman, wala na mauso ang senyurito nga bana karong panahuna datu,if u did it to your wife well your exploiting her, if wife is  fulltime at home still it doesnt mean that its because you are the breadwinner then after u come home u will just sit there and wait until dinner is serve?sineswerti nga pagkabana!

i beg to disagree that men or husbands who help their wives to do house chores are "under de saya." trueness and manliness is measured neither by pwoer nor the authority a man has over his wife but it's how responsible he is and how he respect his wife as a human being. it's worthy for responsible gay to be called a true man than a a full blooded but irresponsible man.

Datu,

My uncle, who is a Medical Doctor (Internal Medicine) and is in UK with my Aunt--is very humble in regard to this situation. He not only cooks, but takes care of his daughter (my cousin). When they came to the 'states in spring 07 to visit my sister and I in college--I was surprised to see his mannerism.

That a graduate of a fine medical school in the Philippines, a Medical Doctor who is now in the UK can yet be so helpful to his wife and child. It is inspiring.

In humility, there is great reward. In helping, there is treasure.

Cheers.

Note,

let us not attack Machisimo. There is nothing wrong with Machisimo. I myself would subscribe to this concept (lol). However, being macho-macho does not mean one can forgoe his duties to his wife, spouse, partner, family.

You can be macho-macho at the same time be humble and work--cook food, clean the house, hilut your wife, (and make babies, lol)

The point is, it is all about courtesy and common respect.

Machismo is fine and okay. So long as you also have self respect as well as outward respect. Mao na ang differensya.

It's not only about "Pre, Pre, Pre, inum ta Pre"

But it is also about, "Mahal, gusto ba ka ug help? Mahal, unsa man gusto nimo i-kanun? Mo luto sad ko ha?"

That is more macho-macho than chugging down a San Miguel Beer or two. IMHO

If my wife gives me 4 children (preferably 4 little tambokikoy little Lorenzos), then ma happy jud ko. I'll have 4 hiluters. hahahaha

Preferably 2-4 years apart. That way one can hilut me, and by the time the eldest goes to college, another will take his/her place. And if they all grow up. Then, I'll borrow one of my Apos. puahahahahaha

Aahahahaha!

I know from first-hand experience. For 10 years I hiluted my dad. When I went off to college, my younger brother Don Rico took my place. hahaha. Now, Dad has trained Andre to hilut him also. LOL!

Pero you know, I notice that we boys have growed and bonded with our Dad because of the Hilut.

Afterall, we should care for our ginikanans, diba? I mean, he is the man that sucked our clogged sip-onon when we were still young--and could not breath. He did that to me, my sister, and my younger brothers.

Mao na i tell my brothers--better we hilut our Dad and show him Love b/c he sucked our siponon when we were but babies.

When our mother told us about the things our Daddy would do for us when we were babies, we laughed and thought she was kidding around. Pero tinuud man diay.

Ning ask mi ni Dad, 'Dad why did you do that? Wasn't it disgusting?'

Ingoon pood siya, "Ah, ug dili imung anak, dili gud. Pero kamo man ahong anak. You come from me. Kinsa man di mo sipsip ang siponon sa anak?"

Na kuratan jud ko  to hear that. That defines a man. And most of all, A Father.

Title: Re: Are Men Exempt for All Household Works?
Post by: Lorenzo on February 26, 2009, 03:47:22 AM
Bem, all dads are good dads. They just express their love differently. Diba?

Daddy is very emotional, dili lang siya open to show it. Sa una, dili na siya mo say, 'I love you' but as we got older, he says it more often. Or mo show siya--very obvious.

I think ing ana man jud na ang Filipino Dads. B/c when i grew up, Kiams, i would go to my friends houses (white, black, latin) etc and notice that American dads are very vocal about their concern to their kids. They hug their kids openly, say things like, "I love you" very frequently. And the kids say it back. And for a Fil-AM growing up in the 'states, it was hard because one I had to adapt and grow into the society in the 'states and yet at the same time when i went back home, lived in a very traditional Filipino (BISAYAN) household. Were english was spoken outside--but inside the house--we spoke only bisaya.

I asked my mom about this before--why does daddy not say 'I love you' openly?

Ingoon ahong inahan, "Ayaw ka think that your Daddy doesn't love you because he doesn't say it openly as sa amahan sa imung amigong puti. Ginigugma mo tanan iyang anak. So proud is your dad of all of you--his kids. Dili na siya mo show nimo, pero sa work place, he cannot stop talking about you kids. Your Dad loves you, even if you think he does not show it--he loves you so much"

Mao na--when I heard this--i came to terms with the cultural divide. Yes I am American and live in the American way of life--but also I realized that indeed i cannot separate myself form my Filipino culture--which my parents still live in. And in the end, when we come to terms with this reality--we can better appreciate our parents, our fathers for who they are. And what they are.

Bem, Am very sure your dad loves you very much. Of course. You are his baby girl.

All we ask in return is for your undivided respect, and nothing but the best in your studies and work. Is that too much to ask for, Anak nako?"

It should be the responsiblity of the child/children to keep the house clean, so as to allow their beloved parents time to rest and peace at home from their busy work schedule.

:)

Jan, it is important jud to instill discipline and honor to the kids. I plan to instill the same disclipline that was given to me on my own kids, pohon.

Team man ta tanan. Si mama, papa ug ang mga anak.

I dont understand the meaning of baug, buwad. Perhaps you can translate for me (sorry my understanding of bisaya is not as great as yours and other native speakers).

But yes, to your latter question: of course. a child is a child. natural or adopted.

In that case, if a person is baug or infertile, he or she can adopt a child and still instill discipline. Anak is anak, bisan outside of marriage or inside, or natural or adopted ba.

This is my dream life:
- Naa ra ko sa balay ug ako ang mag digamo, maglaba, magluto samtang naminaw ug music or drama sa radyo, unya naay internet permi.
- Unya ang akong misis trabaho sa high profile executive position.
- Relax ka permi bonding and playing with the kids
- You have lots of time grooming yourself (pagwapo permi) or developing your talent (painting, writing poetry or composing music).
- Naay sideline nga tindahan sa kilid sa balay or naa kay poultry or backyard garden.

Pagka hayahay nga kinabuhi.

Whoever is available may execute the task at hand. Washing dishes, doing laundry, cooking, etc can be done by both men and women. There should be no distinction.

This is very true, Mike, there really should be no distinction. Both husband and wife will see how the spouse truly cares for them and their home. If the husband is really loving, when the wife is going through her "time of the month", he should do all the work and give her a massage and buy her chocolates as well. Ma lipay gayud si inday. :)

Are Men Exempt for All Household Works?

no.  luckily for me, my banana republic does not think it's beneath him to help around the house.  there are just some things i can't do, like opening tight bottle caps or waking up early to prepare breakfast or ironing more than 2 or 3 clothes at a time.  he hates dishwashing, i don't mind picking up his things from the floor.

one tries to make up for the other as far as household chores are concerned.  we learned to live with that without any expressed agreements on how to do things.  it behooves on me though to try to do more as much as i can because he's the one who holds a day job.
