When I talked to a young ilonggo man this month (sa hospital, kai nurse man ni siya), we exchanged some life experiences and opinions of the Philippines. I told him that I was from Bohol and shared to him about the beauty of the Chocolate Hills, the lush green of Bohol, and the overall kindness of the Boholano people.

He joked around but said, "Bards, tinuod bala ang Bolan-on kuripot gid pero manggaranon?"

I didn't know how to answer his question.

How could this guy assume that Bol-anons are kuripot? Or if it is true, what's wrong in being "financially conservative?"

My response was, "I am not angry, but just know that not all Bol-anons are kuripot, and not all gastador."

I was so very annoyed that he tried generalizing the 'kuripot' aspect.

He also joked that bolanons have 'rubber bands' on their wallets kono. I was so very disappointed with this kind of comment.
