Learning Illongo
« on: March 10, 2010, 01:39:09 PM »
For all the Illongo Speakers and those who know how to speak/write with proficiency in Illongo, can you please teach us?

The basics and even the complex, if possible.

:)

Salamat Gid,
Lorenzo

Tito Ben,

Can you start with the basic principles in Illongo?
Starting from the tonation, to words and sentence formation.
Take your time, Tito. By your pace.

Advanced Thanks. And Much Thanks.

I love the examples, Tito Ben. Especially the endearing examples. ha ha ha!
One thing that I like about the Illongo dialect is the ending. "HAN"

:) Very airy.

I lived in Ilonggo country for some time, but that was years ago. In truth I only have snatches of it now, and what is left is compromised by varying levels of exposure to other Philippine languages. As it is, I don't feel I can impart the little I know in any methodical way.

Thanks anyway, Toy. Until then I will continue to read Ilonggo poems and get personal lessons from my darling (who is Ilongga).
I wish to be as proficient in Binisayang Ilonggo as I am in Binisayang Cebuano/Bolanon. Well that is the goal. A life goal, so to say. :)

The song that started my interest in the Hiligaynon Dialect (Ilonggo).
It was a song that someone sang to me, i was soothed at its words, and could not help from crying.
Ah,..

Dandasoy, Ilonggo (Western Visayas,Philippines)folk song.

When cebuanos say:
"langgam" they look up.
When ilonggos hear cebuanos say:
"langgam" they look down.
reason?
langgam in visayan is bird.
langgam in ilonggo is equal to the tagalog meaning, ant.

In bisaya they call ants:
lamigas, sulom
in hiligaynon they call ants:
subay
the problem?
subay in bisaya is follow..like when you follow a certain path or roadway..you "subay sa dalan".

cebuanos say:
ilonggos are weird they eat "anay" and "bala"
ilonggos say:
cebuanos are weird they eat "sako" as in, kaon sa ko.

when cebuanos say "karon"
they mean "now".
when ilonggos say "karon"
they mean "later".

cebuanos say "bulong"
when they look for something or somebody.
ilonggos say "bulong"
when they want to treat a wound or their sick.
explanation?
"bulong" in visayan is, seek or look.
"bulong" in hiligaynon is, medicine.

bakukang in Visayan is a kind of bug.
bakukang in hiligaynon is a scar that they sometimes call colloid.

pilas for cebuanos is rashes.
pilas for ilonggos is wound, either big or small, fatal or not.

when they buy something, visayans say
"palit ko"
If the keeper is an ilonggo
most likely he will either point you to the nearest changing area or give you a change..
ilonggos translate that as similar to the tagalog translation of the word..

in ilonggo
we cook and eat "bugas"
in cebuano
girls hate "bugas"
why?
because "bugas" is rice grain in ilonggo
but it also refers to pimple in cebuano.

most of all, when they find out that they are talking to an ilonggo, cebuanos try to imitate hiligaynon but tend to over use the "haw", "ya" and "gid"
and when you hear them you can't really help but laugh coz they really sond so funny.

1 patay tungod sa pulong pisot
http://www.sunstar.com.ph/
