Kining "mata pobre", Bay Glace, dili ba Tagalog man ni. Aho lang ning gi-point out kay basin makasab-an tang Bay Koddi ani, he he. ;D
Title: Re: Binisayang Idioms and Its Meaning
Post by: glacier_71 on October 20, 2009, 06:25:51 AM

bay hubs,

magpakasaba lang gud ta hahahaha.

ako bitawng gilili sa tagalog-dictionary, naa. usa ba nis ilang giingon nga tinagalog nga gihimong binisaya? ako laman gud pod ning gibutang kay mao man akong namat-an nga sagad gamiton sa amoa...ug mao nga mas binisaya para nako ni paminawon kaysa tagalog. hehehehe. anyway, thanks for pointing out. atong huwaton si koddi boy. tood, idiom pa pod ning pulunga?

atong has-hasan ning listahan diri. mga peps, atong tabangan. salamat.
Title: Re: Binisayang Idioms and Its Meaning
Post by: hubag bohol on October 20, 2009, 08:06:37 AM
Bitaw, Bay Glace, common man pud nis ato. Actually, morag dili man gani Tagalog ang origin ani, kon dili Spanish. Ang pulong nga "mata-pobre" does not literally mean "eye-poor" kon dili "kill-poor". Matar = to kill in Spanish. (Parehas bitaw sa "oro, plata, mata".) Sa ato pa, ang "matapobre" is "killer of the poor".
Title: Re: Binisayang Idioms and Its Meaning
Post by: glacier_71 on October 20, 2009, 08:16:02 AM

haum kaayo imong clarification, hubs. as in.

ag ako lang pod, mas kita man tingali sa bisaya ang sagad migamit aning pulunga nga POBRE kay sa mga tagalog.
Title: Re: Binisayang Idioms and Its Meaning
Post by: hubag bohol on October 20, 2009, 08:28:52 AM

I think so, too. Mas daghan man og Spanish-derived words ang Binisaya kaysa Tagalog tingali. Sa ato mas common man gani ang POBRE kaysa KABOS, per my experience. In fact, morag quaint and literary man kon mogamit kag KABOS.
Title: Re: Binisayang Idioms and Its Meaning
Post by: glacier_71 on October 20, 2009, 08:51:53 AM

tinood jud. ang KABOS madungog nako na kasagaran sa Siete Palabras, wali ni pader, diskorso sa mga politiko ug pakontes og mga balak ba. hahaha.

anyway, gitipo-tipo lang nako ning mga idioms aron sayon nga reference. maayo nang anamon kay basin gaplano mo mag-publish og libro bahin ani, naa na moy magamit. hahahaha
Title: Re: Binisayang Idioms and Its Meaning
Post by: hubag bohol on October 20, 2009, 09:07:44 AM

He he. Mao bitaw nga dili pwedeng ipamugos ang lingwahe. Bisan unsaon natog syaok nga angay gamiton ang KABOS instead of POBRE in ordinary conversation, unsaon nga ang kadaghanan man ang maghatag og meaning (both denotation and connotation) sa usa ka pulong, dili ang kalantip sa atong utok ug dili ang atong gugma sa atong pinulongan.

Murag sakto na lang ning "ambot sa langaw" kay medyo there is some sense. It means he is completely ignorant or has nothing to say. Pero pag sumpayan pa og "pilay edad sa ok-ok", he will be giving signs that something is wrong with his reasoning or probably he is not in the mood. but this is a good point and appreciate it.

Bay, I have four meanings to this word, as follows:

1) glean for valuable information
2) find out
3) scavenge for leftovers
4) make a fishing expedition

you are right with your interpretation as it is one of the meanings I have for the word. I just assume it is also about fishing expedition as it has relevance in meaning. thanks
