CONGRATULATIONS TO:
BUYOG
by Bambi Sakit ug hapdos pa ang samad,
diin hulma sa imong pagpaniba
And dugos sa katam-is gidim-dim,
diin mo ako imong gipaka-Bathala.
Nalawos kining kadan-ag,
ang kaalimyon nagum-os, natak-tak
Gihulat ko ang bug-yong sa imong harana,
basin sa nataran ikaw mo-usab ug motamak
Apan ang tanan nga kahidlaw sa imong pag-paniba,
Sa bag-ong buklad nga bulak didto ikaw nag hudyaka.
Malimbongon ka Buyog,
ngadto-nganhi ka sa pasalig
Dili kay ako ra ang naling-la
sa imong mga karinyo ug mainit nga parayeg
Tamparos sa unos, ka-init sa kasidlak sa adlaw
Gi-antos ko ang kasakit sa tumang
kamingaw sa imong pagbalik akong gihanduraw
Ikaw.. garbuso nga Buyog
sa laing ling-la,nabihag ug sa kahumot
Bag-ong buklad nga maanyag nga bulak
ikaw nalipong ug nalumos sa pag-simhot.
What makes this entry a well-written poem? "Sakit ug hapdos pa ang samad,"gwapo ang start sa poem, "catching" ang image sa "wound"..
clear kaayo ang metaphor sa flower---> a woman, bee----> penetrator [man]
sa first stanza, i think there's a concept of
sadomasochism "And dugos sa katam-is gidim-dim,
diin mo ako imong gipaka-Bathala."the act of "sucking"---> the image of parasitism [violence]
pero the speaker is aware, perhaps tolerating the draining feeling in "her"
no offense, but the speaker here is, if not so, worshiping the presence of a penetrator..
"katam-is", a pleasurable feeling in her ---> the bee can only taste sweeter
THIS IS A FEMINIST POEM
shows how women become objects of mens' delectation.
"Apan ang tanan nga kahidlaw sa imong pag-paniba,
Sa bag-ong buklad nga bulak didto ikaw nag hudyaka".
see? a struggle between bee's attention, in effect, summarizes the notion that a woman has no work but to tease men,
"flower" is an enticing image. it exudes beauty that it gets compliments.
yet underneath, since it is very delicate, it easily loses its perfection.
AN ATTACK TO MEN
"Malimbongon ka Buyog,"
hopeless one could see, the bee here is depicted as a "generalized" character.
stereotyping the male species, no offense again,
men are but foolish.
Bag-ong buklad nga maanyag nga bulak
ikaw nalipong ug nalumos sa pag-simhot.gwapo ang ending ba..
diri gipakita ang weakness sa mga lalake,
aware pud ang speaker how deceiving women can be.
na after all, though men lose this kind of attachment,
women still know how to deliberately confide to each other [sense of sisterhood]
& triumph over men.
BUT
wala kaayo nakaklaro ang intention sa poem,
pero it has a single effect ------> dili libog ang structure.. simple pero metaphorical..
this poem reminds me of "SICK ROSE", a poem by BLAKE ata. "WORM" alng, dili bee, ang addressee.
OVERALL IMPRESSION:
1. this poem knows its language
2. not superfluous
3. it begs as worth reading
4. dili sya emotional purely, there's humor in it, perhaps its because of the language
5. provocative!!! promise!! it need not dare you to speak for emotions, it gives!
6. light but deeply felt by the poet
7. makes the ordinary and familiar image of "bee & flower" seem extraordinary.
8. this is a good poem because, i think, it stays with me [as a reader]
