THE POPE WARNS AGAINST THE DANGER OF FALSE RELIGIOSITY

Vatican City, 3 September 2012 (VIS) - The Law of God, which finds complete fulfilment in love, provided the theme for Benedict XVI's remarks before praying the Angelus today with faithful gathered in the inner courtyard of the Apostolic Palace at Castelgandolfo.

Commenting on today's reading from the Gospel of St. Mark, in which the Pharisees reproach Jesus' disciples for not following the norms of Mosaic Law, the Pope explained that God's Law "is His Word, which guides mankind along the path of life, freeing them from the slavery of selfishness and introducing them into the 'land' of authentic freedom and life. It is for this reason that, in the Bible, the Law is not seen as a burden, ... but as the Lord's most precious gift, ... (an expression of) His desire to remain alongside His people, and to be their Ally".

Yet when the people settle in the Promised Land and become the depositories of the Law, they are tempted "to place their safety and their happiness in something which is no longer the Word of the Lord: in material goods and in power, other 'divinities' which are, in fact, empty and futile idols. Of course, the Law of God remains, but it is no longer so important, no longer the rule of life; rather it becomes a facade, a covering, while life follows other paths, other rules, often selfish individual and group interests. In this way religion loses its authentic meaning ... and is reduced to a secondary habit which satisfies the need human beings have to feel they have done right before God".

"This is a serious risk in every religion, one which Jesus encountered in His own time, and unfortunately it can also arise in Christianity. Thus Jesus' words in today's Gospel against the Scribes and Pharisees must make us think. Jesus repeats the words of Isaiah: 'This people honours me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching human precepts as doctrine'. ... In his Letter, the Apostle James also warns against the danger of false religiosity", the Holy Father concluded.

After praying the Angelus, Benedict XVI greeted, among others, a group of pilgrims from Lebanon, expressing his delight at the prospect of his forthcoming visit to that country.

I don't want to put this man down or in any way negate his spirituality and his declaration of the Gospel. I just want to say that it is important that preachers of the Word of God must beware in calling themselves "Prophets" or any self declaration. For there are no more any prophets after Jesus Christ, who was the perfection , the seal of the prophets.

The last prophet was John the Baptist.

The Father is now testifying to you, through the Son. This is the testimony that God has given us eternal life. This life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life. He who does not have the Son of God does not have life." -The Deliverer Has Come...

makapanaghoy man sad ta sa claims aning tawhana. i believe some of us suffer from messiah complex, but this is going too far. well, he isn't the first. back in the 1920s... that church until now continues to be courted by politicians because it practices block voting. their return on investment? positions in government for church members who are far from qualified. uh-huh.

all i can say is that those in this particular picture were not appointed president or vice-president by the appointed son of god.

as an afterthought, binay, who also had an audience with this appointed son of god in some other archived news item, made it.

on the other hand, despite public declarations by the iglesia ni cristo that their support was for the aquino-roxas tandem, i suspect (because of a very reliable source---an inc guy who boasts too much about the political power of their cult) that they still voted for binay because "he helped their church much", according to that inc guy.

sadly, it is as if these cults can scare our politicians more than the catholic church.

i came across a thread by accident some months back; i forgot the website's name, but i did bother to read everything in one long thread. paskang lingawa nako. nangatake ug religious belief (christianity) nga puro sila way kalibotan (they seem to be muslims, from the looks of it, and very educated.) one entry: "john is not a christian. he's a catholic." tua na lagi...

i had to tell this because of what some inc people who don't know much about catholicism (i'd presume, because of their own pronouncements) had said---catholic priests are criminals!

my badness, fr chic. does that make you a fugitive?

seriously, now i know why wars were fought in the name of religion. when i heard that, right there and then, i wanted to attack the guy and tear him to shreds, not so much for his religion (who cares) but for his sheer stupidity.

It is necessary at times for those who are soldiers of Christ to defend the One, Holy Roman Catholic Church and repudate any heretical notions of this world. And there are many heresies committed in this day in age, where there is a lack in the Fear of The Lord God.

I cannot believe that men such as Quiboloy, who dares to assume that he is the Son of the Living God. Heresy! May he be in ananthema !

The One, Holy Roman Catholic Church is the First and Only True Church , established by Jesus Christ himself when he declared that Peter, was the Rock of His Church. Referring to Simon Peter Bar Jonah as "PETROS", which means "Rock".

It is the Holy Mother The Church who compiled and organized Holy Scripture, who preserved the Original Christian Traditions , which was mentioned in Corinthians. Additionally, it is through the Holy Mother The Church, the One, Holy Catholic Apostolic Church through which the Eucharist is offerred daily.

I hold the notion in the old teachings of Catholica Ecclesia, "Extra Ecclesiam nulla salus."

It is St. Peter who holds the Keys to Heaven. What he binds in earth he binds in heaven, whatever he looses in earth, is lost in heaven.
