The Beauty of Tridentine Catholic Mass
« on: August 25, 2009, 05:53:08 PM »
I have attended a Tridentine Mass, which was in Latin.

Utterly and solemnly beautiful.

The presence of Christ in the Eucharist is unexplainably powerful and pure.

Beautiful! Beautiful! Beautiful!
The Holy Spirit Is so Beautiful!

Tridentine is a very conservative form of celebrating the mass, I find it really beautiful. Some churches here in Germany still practices this form.

Kanang first Fridays kay kantahon ang Tantum Ergo, bayaw ang monstrans, dakong pasalamat sa Gugma ni Hesus!

Thanks for posting Ondoy Lorenzo. ;)

I was not attracted to Tridentine Mass before, Manay. In fact I never knew Latin several years ago.

But I was attracted to it this year (last year 2008 and now in 2009).

It is indeed so beautiful.

It is Roman Catholic Mass as it was practiced for over 2000 years.

Pope Benedict, in a July 2007 apostolic letter, Summorum Pontificum, said that Mass celebrated according to the 1962 Roman Missal, commonly known as the Latin or Tridentine rite, should be made available in every parish where groups of the faithful desire it. In his letter, the pope said the Mass from the Roman Missal in use since 1970 remains the ordinary form of the Mass, while celebration of the Tridentine Mass is the extraordinary form.

The pope's letter allowed the Tridentine Mass to be celebrated without a priest first getting a bishop's approval. The statement updated the 1984 decision of Pope John Paul II that allowed the Tridentine liturgy to be celebrated with the local bishop's approval.
The CARA survey was patterned after a 1985 Gallup Poll, replicating the questions while making slight alterations to reflect changed events, such as the election of Pope Benedict in 2005.

In contrast with the CARA survey, the 1985 poll indicated that 25 percent of Catholics had no opinion on the availability of the Tridentine Mass. At that time, 35 percent of respondents opposed the return of the traditional rite while 40 percent favored it.

I still attend new mass once in while pero akong bana latin mass ra gyud siya. We are lucky here kay naa mi priest permi mag said ug latin mass. Magtravel pa lagi mi 70 miles every sunday pokawon namo among mga bata 5 oclock kay aron mosimba naanad raman pud sila.
Yes latin mass is beautiful. Ganahan sad ko Manay anang Adoration nga mokanta ug tantum ergo.

In my younger years it was usual to have mass celebrated in latin, wa ko kasabot maglabad akong ulo. I don´tlike going to mass. Later on as a young adult, the mass is celebrated in front of the people and in  the local language. It was more appealing.
Now, hearing it in a conservative way, very soothing to the soul. I always look for churches who say the mass in latin.

I agree with your testimony, Manay. As we grow older, mature, and open ourselves to the True meaning of The Blessed Word, one gains a fuller appreciation for Latin Mass.

musta bro!

Here is a Tridentine Mass filmed:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfm5Y5MwZqQ&feature=related

I think if you ask your local parish priest or your regional diocesian bishop that you want to have a latin mass, he can schedule a priest to do a mass in Latin. As all priests learn latin in their seminarian years.

My good and kind friend, JR, who is a 1st year seminarian this year, is taking latin right now. :)

You know what is good too, bro, even if there is no tridentine mass, anytime you have extra tme, i recommend you go to the chapel and do Eucharistic Adoration.
Powerful kaayo ang experience, jud, bro!
I can say this to you that Eucharistic Adoration has changed my life.
Amen! I was touched by the Holy Spirit last year when I was with friends during Eucharistic Adoration...maka feel jud nimo bro, naa ang Ginoo! You feel HIM so close to you!
Maka hilak.....ang feeling. Beautiful tears fall down...

Sige, ha, take care! I pray for you on your continued renewal in faith!

Yours In Christ,
Bran Lorenzo

Yes, bro. Usually if your church has an adoration chapel, there will be in place of the crucifix, the Chalice and inside the Body of Christ.

Or sometimes, if the parish is small, the eucharist and chalice is placed in the main tabernacle.

What I do, bro, is i go to the chapel and bring the bible. Sometimes i go to the chapel instead of mass. Quiet and personal meditation and adoration of the Blessed Word.
Open yourself and your heart to Christ. You get a personal relationship with HIM that way.
Because the best place to pray is in a quiet place. The Chapel helps jud.

----

I try to go in the morning everyday, (sometimes dili ko ka make kai ma late ko sa school, he he he he). Ug mo adto ko sa buntag, there are older ladies doing Marian adoration. Mo adto lang ko sa likud kai naa man ang Blessed Eucharist sa center. Didto ra ko sa likud, ning lingkud. Beautiful kaayo uy!

Come to the chapel with the intent to release all to Christ.
Ma release jud ang burden.
For me, powerful kaayo ang experience.

The Body of Christ, for some, just appears as a circular bread.

But for us, that piece of bread is the Bread of Life.

It is there, bro, because all who Call on the Name of Jesus Christ for Salvation, may recieve HIM.

That is not just bread. Through substantiation, that is the very Body of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Who was nailed in the Cross.

That is Jesus Christ. The Lord and Loving Savior. Our Lord.

hehe, Salvation On High!

John 6: 30-66: So they said to him, "Then what sign do you do, that we may see, and believe you? What work do you perform?  Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, `He gave them bread from heaven to eat.'"  Jesus then said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven; my Father gives you the true bread from heaven.  For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven, and gives life to the world." They said to him, "Lord, give us this bread always."  Jesus said to them, "I AM the bread of life; he who comes to me shall not hunger, and he who believes in me shall never thirst. But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe. All that the Father gives me will come to me; and him who comes to me I will not cast out. For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me; and this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up at the last day. For this is the will of my Father, that every one who sees the Son and believes in him should have eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day." The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, "I am the bread which came down from heaven." They said, "Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How does he now say, `I have come down from heaven'?" Jesus answered them, "Do not murmur among yourselves. No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day. It is written in the prophets, `And they shall all be taught by God.' Every one who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me. Not that any one has seen the Father except him who is from God; he has seen the Father. Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes has eternal life. I AM the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that a man may eat of it and not die. I AM the living bread which came down from heaven; if any one eats of this bread, he will live for ever; and the bread which I shall give for the life of the world is my flesh." The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?" So Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you; he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats me will live because of me. This is the bread which came down from heaven, not such as the fathers ate and died; he who eats this bread will live for ever." This he said in the synagogue, as he taught at Capernaum. Many of his disciples, when they heard it, said, "This is a hard saying; who can listen to it?" But Jesus, knowing in himself that his disciples murmured at it, said to them, "Do you take offense at this? Then what if you were to see the Son of man ascending where he was before? It is the spirit that gives life, the flesh is of no avail; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. But there are some of you that do not believe." For Jesus knew from the first who those were that did not believe, and who it was that would betray him. And he said, "This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father." After this many of his disciples drew back and no longer went about with him.

1 Corinthians 10:16-21
The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ? Because there is one bread, we who are many are one body, for we all partake of the one bread. Consider the people of Israel; are not those who eat the sacrifices  partners in the altar? What do I imply then? That food offered to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything? No, I imply that what pagans sacrifice they offer to demons and not to God. I do not want you to be partners with demons.  You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons.

1 Corinthians 11:23-30:
For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread,  and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, "This is my body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me."  In the same way also the cup, after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me."  For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes. Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of profaning the body and blood of the Lord.  Let a man examine himself, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup.  For any one who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment upon himself.  That is why many of you are weak and ill, and some have died.

1 Corinthians 11:23-30 states, "For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes. Whoever therefore eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of profaning the body and blood of the Lord. Let a man examine himself and so eat the bread and drink of the cup. For anyone hwo eats and drink swthout discerning the body eats and drinks judgment upon himself."

This is important because this is the very verse in 1st Corinthians that motivated me to Eucharistic Adoration.

We partake of the Eucharist because it is COMMANDED of us by CHRIST OUR LORD to do so, He said to do so in REMEMBRANCE of Him. But we are reminded in 1st corinthians 11:29-30 that we must discern of the meaning of the body and blood of christ.

The Body of Christ is Salvation. We must discern it because we have to appreciate the meaning of His Sacrifice to Us. That this bread is Not any ordinary bread, no! This is THE BODY OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. AMEN!

This bread is the Life! This is the Salvation of Our Soul!
Everytime we take it, bro, we proclaim the Lord's Death until He comes back in Judgement.

hehehe! God Bless!

It was after my Confirmation to the Holy Roman Catholic Church, on Easter 2007, that I went to our home parish at Our Lady of Lordes Roman Catholic Church. I went there at night, and went inside the Chapel. I was the only one there ( i think it was 8 or 9 pm then). The Blessed Eucharist was there and the candle light was on.

It was that night that I was touched by the Holy Spirit.
My evangelization initiated then. And He has been a powerful and Justifying force in my life.
The Holy Spirit is so good. So Kind.

He comes to you in silence. He came to me, a sinner. :)
