Verse 1
Mother dear, O pray for me!
Whilst far from heav'n and thee.
I wander in a fragile bark,
O'er life's tempestuous sea.
O Virgin Mother, from thy throne,
So bright in bliss above.
Protect thy child and cheer my path
With thy sweet smile of love.

Chorus
Mother dear, remember me!
And never cease thy care,
'Till in heaven eternally,
Thy love and bliss I share.

Verse 2
Mother dear, O pray for me!
Should pleasure's siren lay.
E'er tempt thy child to wander far
From Virtue's path away.
When thorns beset life's devious way,
And darkling waters flow.
Then Mary aid thy weeping child,
Thyself a mother show.

lorenz, how could you...

a million thanks. these two songs were the first english religious songs i learned before my first communion.  you bet i have mangled some words, but my memory of the tune is as perfect as a child's smooth voice.

i feel it's been ages since these songs were sung, at least in the philippine setting, except when one attends wednesday's mother of perpetual help novena in baclaran in manila or at the redemptorist church in cebu city.  these songs seemed more common when i was an early grader.

(the mass i attended last sunday had unfamiliar tagalog songs.  i believe i spent three quarters of the mass sleeping.)

thanks again.

i remember this song very well. during my high school years, i was an altar server at St. Mary's Queen of Heaven Parish Church in New Jersey and this song was sung frequently. when i was an elementary student at St. Aloysius Catholic School in New York City, i volunteered as an altar server -- and this song was selected by my very good friend and priest, Fr. McGovern.

I will always remember how the beautiful church organs resonating the melody as the music echoed throughout the church -- in St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church in Brooklyn, New York City.

I was lucky to find this song again in youtube. so i share it here. good to know that fr. roel and yourself know this song. ;)
