Some modern critics have derided the semi-syncopal religious experiences as veiled orgasmic phenomena rather than spiritual encounters.

Teresa is experiencing a transfiguring coma, the Sleep of God, described by mystics, in which a glimpse of glory is received. Mystics like Teresa would pray for days, often unfed, to achieve such visions.

I believe in it.

For did not the Holy One of God came down from Heaven to Earth?
Do we not believe that the GREAT I AM,
chose to be born into the form of man, so that man could be saved?
Chose to be born by a humble maidservant, Mary of Bethlehem. Wife of Joseph of the House of David?

Did not the Lord God Jesus Christ compel the apostles to speak in tongues at the day of Pentecost?
Did not the Lord God marvel the wise men, learned men in the temple when He was but a boy-child?

Teresa was touched by the Holy Spirit.
Awakened with the fire of God's Divine Awakening.
The birth and evangelization of a Solid Life In Christ.

Hers is a perfect example of woman's obeiscance to God's Will.

God, who is told to us in Timothy is unapproachable since His Divine Light. No one has seen the Father God, but we are given a glimpse of His Divine Power through His Son, Jesus CHrist.

For it is said, "No one can come to the Father but through Jesus Christ."

The Lord God, has sent his messages to His beloved through Angels.
He appropriates messages through Angels, who are messengers of Almighty Providence.

----

The following are examples of Angels being sent to declare GOD'S message:

1. The Angel of God and wrestling the prophet Jacob--the latter being blessed for surviving the encounter
2. The 3 Angels that talked and conversed with Abraham, and on the salvation of the two sister-cities : sodom and gomorrha
3. The Angel Raphael being sent Tobias
4. The Angel Gabriel was sent to Mary of Bethlehem to bring glad tidings that she was chosen by God The Father to bear His Son, Jesus Christ LORD.
5. The Angel of God that unlocked Apostle Peter's prison cell, and allowed Peter to escape unscathed.

and many, many more!

Angels are God's messengers. We see this throughout OLD TESTAMENT and NEW TESTAMENT chronology. he he he

Yes you are right, bro.

Man, is innately flawed in our limited ability to comprehend the infinity that is THE LORD GOD.
The finite can never be able to comprehend the infinite.

The dust cannot fully understand the ALPHA and OMEGA. :)

----

For the LORD GOD said,
"8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.
9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.

10 “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven
and do not return there but water the earth,
making it bring forth and sprout,
giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater,
11 so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;
it shall not return to me empty,
but it shall accomplish that which I purpose,
and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.

--Isaiah 55:8-11

Taga Tigbao, I would say you should be very, very careful of a delicate topic . I don´t know if anyone of us here is a real theologian. The danger of being teased by an evil mind is highly probable.

Manay is right, we should not endorse and take any fictional works literally per se the book "Angels and Demons".

---

That being said, I think the sculpture is quite interesting and worthy of discussion:

here is a discourse:

--Some modern critics have derided the semi-syncopal religious experiences as veiled orgasmic phenomena rather than spiritual encounters. However, Robert Harbison has expressed his doubt that Bernini, a follower of the mystical exercises of followers of St. Ignatius of Loyola, would have intended to depict here an episode of lust fulfilled. Instead, Bernini aims to express the facial and body equivalents of a state of divine joy.

Teresa is experiencing a transfiguring coma, the Sleep of God, described by mystics, in which a glimpse of glory is received. Mystics like Teresa would pray for days, often unfed, to achieve such visions. It would have not been unusual for devout daily church-goer like Bernini to spend hours at prayer each day, seeking this experience. The expression here is more like that of the joy of heavenly encounter found in Bernini's Blessed Ludovica Albertoni in her deathbed.

This scenographic chapel unites lifelong themes for Bernini. True to Baroque sentiment, it illustrates a moment where divinity intrudes on an earthly body. Irving Lavin said the transverberation becomes a point of contact between earth and heaven, between matter and spirit. But the dichotomy of the conceit in this artwork echoes further in conjoining joy and pain in Teresa's expression and the conjunction of gilded rays with rippled stone. The unity of architecture, theater, and sculpture found in this complex is a quintessential baroque feature, with the Holy Ghost as light bathing or guided by the gilded rays framing the stature from windows atop the chapel, allowing the sky to enter church.

The effects are theatrical, including the discourse the saint renders among the flanking Cornaro pedigree. The cherubic details around Teresa may repel a secular minimalist, yet they add to the notion that we are seeing a moment of time where God has intruded into one woman's soul, if not pierced her literal body.

it's a divine encounter.. just like what st Imelda Lambertini  experienced.

"Imelda Lambertini entered the Dominican Convent at the age of nine. She had a burning desire for Jesus in the Holy Eucharist and wanted to receive Communion but was not allowed because she was under the required age of twelve years. She received a special gift from the Lord on the Feast of the Ascension in 1333. While praying, a Host appeared suspended in mid-air in front of her. The priest was called and he gave her Holy Communion. She went into ecstasy and never awakened. She died while receiving her First Holy Communion! Her body remains incorrupt."

he he he, yes, Bem. St. Imelda Lambertini is also the patron for young eucharistees to recieve the Holy Eucharist.

In my personal view lang, Blessed Imelda was so fully touched by the power of Christ Lord in the Eucharist that the her joyous exaltation of her soul was so much that her physical body, the capsule and shell of the eternal soul, was unable to contain her soul's abounding reverberation. That her soul rose to heaven, to join the rows of Holy saints and angels. To sing in eternal choir in the eternal song of praise to the Most High.

There is a saying, "the spirit is willing, but the body is weak."

The body may perish, but the soul, is destined for immortal judgement---and if granted salvation---shall abound in Eternal Paradise with the LORD.

The Holy Rest of St. Imelda Lambertini of the Holy Eucharist.
The Child Saint. The Rapture of Divine Absolution.
Her innocence and faith is made known to us, that the LORD GOD has preserved her body through the centuries.
Her soul has risen to heaven over 7 centuries ago, and her body has not decayed. INCORRUPTIBLE.

SAINT IMELDA, INSPIRE US!
PRAY FOR US TO THE SEAT OF DIVINE WISDOM.

THAT WE MAY HAVE THE BURNING DESIRE TO YEARN
TO TAKE CHRIST INTO OUR BODY.
THE ADORATION AND LOVE OF THE BLESSED EUCHARIST.

PRAY FOR US.
IN JESUS' NAME.
PRAY FOR US.
