LORD, Teach us to pray...
They followed Him, learned from Him, and watched intently as He preached to the hurting, healed those who had lost hope and ministered to endless crowds that pressed near Him day after day. They also watched Him pray. Christ made time to pray, even when it meant pulling away from the crowds to be alone with His Father. He prayed when He was tired or busy or before making a big decision. Sometimes He stayed on His knees all night, earnestly pouring out His heart to God. And always Jesus returned from prayer with renewed strength, greater wisdom, and inner peace.
The disciples longed for that peace. They too, wanted a more personal connection with their God. So they asked with heart-felt sincerity,
"Lord, teach us to pray."
Jesus responded by giving the most recited prayer ever spoken - the Lord's Prayer. And within this passage emerges a pattern for living; a way to draw near to the heart of God. We may call it the Lord's prayer yet Christ intended it for us all.
Prayer is not a skill we master; rather it is a journey that takes us closer to heaven.Linkback:
