January 7, 2009 - WISELY

Ten bridesmaids took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. (Matthew 25:1)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ten bridesmaids took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. When the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them; but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. In our scripture reading, we have some wise and some foolish bridesmaids. How do we live our lives--foolishly or wisely, prepared or unprepared?

Life is a gift, and I believe it is important to live our lives wisely. We shouldn't live our lives by thinking that we have the rest of our lives before us, so we can live life on the edge and do as we please. There is so much more to life than fulfilling ourselves. Living wisely means, we are constantly working to better our relationship with God. We work to do all we can to help others. Living wisely means we live each day to it's fullest.

In the Wall Street Journal, there was a report where someone saw a sign in a Hong Kong dentist's office. The sign said, "Teeth Extracted by the Latest Methodists." I don't know how good Methodists are at extracting teeth, but as God's people we can extract or bring out the best in one another. So, being wise means we are a part of the church that helps us be the best we can be.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

God of all things, work on me to make me the best I can be for your glory. Amen

January 11, 2009 - GIFTS

Make vows to the LORD your God, and perform them; let all who are around him bring gifts to the one who is awesome. (Psalm 76:11)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I read a story that was about the very bashful young man who was hesitant about demonstrating his affection for his sweetheart. "Oh, but that I were an octopus," he said one night, "that I might wrap all eight arms around you." His impatient sweetheart replied, "Don't worry about having eight arms. Just make better use of the two arms you already have."

That is what we must do in doing the work of Jesus Christ. We shouldn't worry about weather or not we have the gifts to follow. We simply need to use what gifts we have to follow Christ and to do God's will.

Doing otherwise is simply a waste of time.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear God, may I realize more fully today the wonderful gifts you have given me. May I respond to you call in fulfilling your will for my life in touching your people with love and forgiveness. Amen.

January 12, 2009- GOD'S WAY

Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. (Mark 8:32)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I read a story once of a Sunday School class that was talking about heaven. A little girl said, "If you are good, you'll go to heaven."

A little boy asked, "Where do you go if you are bad?"

The little girl replied emphatically, "To the principal's office."

Choosing to go God's way is not so much about being good or bad, but it does have a lot to do with who guides our lives God or our own desires.

In our scripture reading today, Peter says to Jesus you're crazy. You are not going to suffer and die. You see Peter and the disciples had a different idea about what the messiah would be like. They saw the messiah as an earthly king or president, who would restore Israel's freedom and power. The disciples were looking for their own desires to be met, not God's desire that Jesus would become the savior of the world.

We are being asked today to choose who we will follow. There are many surveys that say lots of people in our society believe in God. But belief in God does not constitute living God's way. For when we live God's way, we will be willing to suffer with those who suffer, and we will make sacrifices so that God's work will get done in and through the church.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Loving God, help me say yes to serving you in every way possible. Amen.

January 13, 2010 - LIFE IS A STRUGGLE

Worship: The barrier of pride

It is not that we think we are qualified to do anything on our own.  Our qualification comes from God. 2 Corinthians 3:5

Life is a struggle, but what most people don't realize is that our struggle, like Jacob's, is really with God! We want to be God, and there's no way we're going to win that struggle, but we try anyway.

A.W. Tozer said, "The reason why many are still troubled, still seeking,  still making little forward progress is because they haven't yet come to  the end of themselves. We're still trying to give orders, and interfering  with God's work within us."

We aren't God, and we never will be. We're humans, and the times when we try to be God are the times we end up most like Satan, who tried to be equal with God, too.

We accept our humanity intellectually, but not emotionally. We give mental assent to the idea, but when faced with our own limitations, we react with irritation, anger, and resentment. We want to be taller (or shorter),  smarter, stronger, more talented, beautiful, and wealthy.

We want to have it all and do it all, and become upset when it doesn't happen. Then, when we notice God gave others characteristics we don't have, we respond with envy, jealousy, and self-pity.

What it means to surrender.  Surrendering to God is not passive resignation, fatalism, or an excuse for laziness. It is not accepting the status quo. It may mean the exact opposite: sacrificing your life in resistance to evil and injustice, or suffering in order to change what needs to be changed. God often calls surrendered people to do battle on his behalf. It not for cowards or doormats.

Surrendering is not putting your brain in neutral and giving up rational thinking. God would not waste the mind he gave you! God does not want robots to serve him. Surrendering is not repressing your personality. God wants to use your unique personality. Rather than being diminished, surrendering enhances your uniqueness.

C. S. Lewis observed, "The more we let God take us over, the more truly ourselves we become - because he made us.  He invented all the different people that you and I were intended to be. It is when I turn to Christ, when I give up myself to His personality, that I first begin to have a real personality of my own."

January 14, 2010 - LONELINESS

"But the Lord stood at my side ...." 2 Timothy 4:17

The Christmas holidays tend to magnify the loneliness we feel when we're separated from the ones we love. Many of us have lost our roots, or never had any to begin with, and that can cause loneliness. We can experience the loneliness of separation because of military service, or a career, or an illness.

But the Bible tells us what we can do about our loneliness --

Focus on the needs of others - Get your eyes off yourself and focus outward. Look at how you can serve other people. The Apostle Paul focused on telling more people about Jesus: "But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it" (2 Timothy 4:17).

Focus on your purpose - Even when the Apostle Paul was isolated in a prison, he never stopped living out his purpose. He wanted everybody to know about God's love.

When you're lonely - Stop building walls and start building bridges!  Instead of saying, "I'm so lonely," say, "Father, help me be a friend to people who need a friend. Help me to help lonely people." That is the antidote for loneliness.

You can help others become rich in relationships by giving them the gift  of YOU.

January 19, 2010 - SURRENDER

Surrender: Let Go and Let God Work

Surrender yourself to the Lord, and wait patiently for him. Psalm 37:7

Surrendering your life means -
Following God's lead without knowing where he's sending you; Waiting for God's timing without knowing when it will come; Expecting a miracle without knowing how God will provide;  Trusting God's purpose without understanding the circumstances.

You know you're surrendered to God when you rely on God to work things out instead of trying to manipulate others, force your agenda, and control the situation. You let go and let God work. You don't have to always be "in charge." Instead of trying harder, you trust more.

You also know you're surrendered when you don't react to criticism and rush to defend yourself.

Surrendered hearts show up best in relationships. You are not self-serving, you don't edge others out, and you don't demand your rights.

The most difficult thing to surrender for many people is their money. Many have thought, "I want to live for God but I also want to earn enough money to live comfortably and retire someday."

Retirement is not the goal of a surrender life -- Because it competes with God for the primary attention of our lives. Jesus said, "You cannot serve both God and money," and "Wherever your treasure is, your heart will be also."

The supreme example of self-surrender is Jesus. The night before his crucifixion, Jesus surrendered himself to God's plan. He prayed, "Father, everything is possible for you. Please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will, not mine."

Jesus didn't pray, "God, if you're able to take away this pain, please do so." He began by affirming that God can do anything! He prayed, "God, if  it is in your best interest to remove this suffering, please do so. But if  it fulfills your purpose, that's what I want, too."

Genuine surrender says, "Father, if this problem, pain, sickness, or  circumstance is needed to fulfill your purpose and glory in my life or in another's life, please don't take it away!"

This level of maturity doesn't come easy. In Jesus' case, he agonized so much over God's plan that he sweats drops of blood. Surrender is hard work. In our case, it requires intense warfare against our self-centered nature.

Friend,

This is a really good message to share with all our brothers and sisters in Christ who are lonely or who are looking to give more of themselves to others for the benefit and the Glory of God.

For it is said that we are the temples of the Holy Spirit, purchased at a price. That what we may do we may Glorify the Lord our God as we shine our light unto the world.

(References: Matthew 5:15, 1 Corinthians 3:16)

:)

GOD BLESS!

Friend,

This may be so. Life is a struggle. But we should not lament or be in timidity nor should we prostrate ourselves to the challenges in life.

We are of God!
We are children of God!

Do you denounce satan and his lies and his pestilent troubles that are meant to question faith?
Do you declare war against satan and his agents whose main goal is to antagonize the faith of the faithful?
Have courage!

For it is said and it is WRITTEN!

"Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world."
1 John 4:4

God lives within us. We are His temples. And HE is greater than satan who lives in the world.

So do not weep and do not despair! Have faith! In JESUS' Name, you can do anything.
For we can do any and all things through Jesus Christ who strengthens us!

FORWARD IN CHRIST!

Addendum: Regarding To the verse in 1 John 4:4,

This verse can be broken down into the following:

1. We belong to God.
2. As such, we are able to overcome the world.
3. The one inside us is greater than the one in the world.

I don’t think I have to elaborate further that the one in us is the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of God and the one in the world is Satan. Let us enhance further the meaning on this. “greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” This part tells me the following:

1. There are 2 forces in existence – the one in me (God) and the one in the world (Satan).
2. They belong to opposite sides and at war at each other.
3. The one in me is greater than the one in this world.

“How can we tell then, what is from God and what is from Satan?”

10The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).
John 10:10

The above verse clearly separates the will of God and the will of the devil. The “thief” refers to Satan. Satan came to steal, kill and destroy but Jesus came for us to enjoy life and have abundance. Abundance refers to prosperity. In short, God wants us to be rich and the devil wants us to be poor.

So, when you see stealing, killings and destruction in this world, they are the works of Satan. It is Satan’s will for them to happen, not God. This tells us that Satan is controlling the world that we are living in.

“How does this happen?”

Here is a brief history lesson. When God made this earth, he gave Man the full control on it. When Adam committed high treason to God, the control was forfeited and fell into the hands of Satan. This was the beginning to stealing, killings and destruction in this world. However, after Jesus died at the Cross to pay for the price of all our sins, Satan’s authority over this world had been taken away from him by God. God has in turn handed back this authority to us.

Having this authority is useless unless we know how to exercise it. While Satan’s authority over this world has been removed, he is still in control through illegal means. This is equivalent to a country’s president who lost the election but still hold on to power through military control.

In our spiritual battle to regain our rights, it is necessary for us to acknowledge these facts:
1. Satan is in effective control over this world.
2. This control is illegal after Jesus’s death at the Cross.
3. It is our right to take back this control. We are the legal owners of this world.

How do we do that?

First, we need to identify Satan’s works in out life. Are you sick? Are you in lack, poor and in debt? Are you depressed and stressed? Are you facing the prospect of losing everything that you have? These are symptoms of stealing, killings and destruction. They are the works of Satan and his gang. They have no right to do that and therefore illegal. It is illegal for the devil to steal our prosperity, health and success.

Second, we have to decide to resist their illegal oppression in our lives. We need to believe that it is God’s will for us to prosper and be in health as our soul prospers. As we believe, we have to determine to fight to regain the rights our Jesus has paid at the Cross. No matter how impossible the situation appears to be or how many times we have been knocked down, we can always rise up and fight again because the one who is in us is greater than the one in this world (1 John 4:4). So, as long as we have decided to fight this battle and determined no to give up no matter what the enemies throw at us, we are destined to win. We are destined to get back all our rights the Jesus bought for us through his death at the Cross and demand compensation from our oppressors on all the sufferings inflicted on us.

Third, we need to know that that the source of our strength and victory is God. Our reliance on God is the key to our victory. If you choose to rely on your own ability, you are bound to lose. This tells us that we need to spend quality time with God, listen to faith message, meditate on his word, confess his word and anything instructed by God if we are really serious in winning this battle.

This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
-Joshua 1:8

January 20, 2010 - HUMILITY

He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way. (Psalm 25:9)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I remember a story of a Texas man who was bragging on the "bigness" of everything in Texas. He was surprised when an "Okie" stepped up and agreed with him. "Yes", said the Okie, "that's right, everything's big in Texas! Why, I once knew a Texan who was so big they couldn't find a coffin big enough to bury him in when he died. "And what did they do?" asked the surprised Texan. "Well," came the answer, "they just let the air out of him, and buried him in a shoe box!"

Being humble puts us in our place and, at times, may cause us some pain. But being humble also puts God first and helps us receive eternal life.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear God, remind me daily of the great gift of humility. Amen.

I agree with this statement, Sab.

Be humble in all that you do, because it is in humility and in sanctified and glorified trust in the LORD, that one will be glorified in the Lord.

:)

January 21, 2010 - When The Future Seems Uncertain

"For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord. "They are plans ... to give you a future and a hope ... You will find me when you seek me, if you look for me in earnest."  Jeremiah 29:11, 13

No matter what the pollsters, pundits, and prognosticators claim, no one can accurately predict all that is going to happen this year, let alone in the next few weeks. Our best forecasts are just educated guesses.

Change is not only increasing in speed and intensity, but also in unpredictability.

The Bible suggests three timeless principles for facing an uncertain future:

•Set goals according to God's direction.  It's foolish to make plans without first consulting God.  He's the only one who DOES know the future - and he's eager to guide you through it.  The Bible says, "We may make our plans, but God has the last word."  (Proverbs 16:1)  In other words, planning without praying is presumption.  Start by praying, "God, what do YOU want me to do in 2010?"

•Live one day at a time -- While you can plan for tomorrow, you can't live  it until it arrives. Most people spend so much time regretting the past and worrying about the future, they have no time to enjoy today!   John Lennon once wrote, "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans."  Decide to make the most of each moment this year.  Jesus said, "Don't be anxious about tomorrow - God will take care of your tomorrows. Live one day at a time." (Matthew 6:34)

•Don't procrtatsinate - DO IT NOW! - "Don't boast about what you're going to do tomorrow, for you don't know what a day may bring forth." (Proverbs 27:1).  Procrastinating is a subtle trap.  It wastes today by postponing things until tomorrow.  You promise yourself that you'll do it "one of these days." But "one of these days" is usually none of these days." What did you plan to get done last year that you didn't do? When do you intend to start working on it?

January 22, 2010 - DONT COMPLAIN

And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it. (Matthew 16:18)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I remember a story of George Crum. He was an Indian chief a century and a half ago. He was also a chef. One day the wealthy Cornelius Vanderbuilt came into the lodge where George Crum was the chef. Vanderbuilt ordered a new dish called French Fried Potatoes.

When it was brought out, Mr. Vanderbuilt sent it back saying it was too thick. He know how is was supposed to be prepared, because he had been to France. This happened a few times until George got so angry that he cut the Potatoes razor thin and boiled them in animal fat.

Much to his surprise, Mr. Vanderbuilt liked the American variation of French Fries, which today we call potato chips.

The thing I like about this story is that George disciplined his anger and created something good-- potato chips. This also created unity between him and Mr. Vanderbuilt.

There are certainly times when we get angry or frustrated about the church, but we should not complain about it. We should use our frustrations to make the church better and more effective in its ministry to one another and to people of our community.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Loving God, move me to not complain, but to do all I can to help your church touch peoples lives with your love. Amen.

January 25, 2010 - SERVANT

Whoever wants to be first must be last of all and servant of all. (Mark 9:35)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In our scripture reading today, the disciples and Jesus are on their way to Capernaum. During their travel, the disciples start arguing about who was the greatest. When they got to Capernaum Jesus asked them what they were arguing about. They were silent. They were embarrassed. Jesus called all the disciples together and said, "Whoever wants to be first must be last of all and servant of all."

But what is a servant? In our society today, few of us have a real appreciation of what being a servant is all about. A servant is simply one who puts others needs before their own. This is not always easy to do, as demonstrated by the disciples in our text today. But, being a servant is what we are called to do, and being a servant makes us great in the eyes of God.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Jesus, you are the greatest servant of all by dying for my sins. Help me to put the needs of others before my own. Amen.

January 26, 2010 - HEARTBEAT

When serving God, listen to your heart

A man's heart reflects the man. Proverbs 27:19 (NIV)

The Bible uses the term "heart" to describe the bundle of desires, hopes, interests, ambitions, dreams, and affections that you have. Your heart represents the source of all your motivations -- what you love to do and what you care about most. Even today, we still use the word in this way when we say, "I love you with all my heart."

The Bible says what is in your heart is what you really are, not what others think you are, or what circumstances force you to be (Proverbs 27:19). Your heart is the real you. It determines why you say the things you do, why you feel the way you do, and why you act the way you do.

Physically, each of us has a unique heartbeat. Just as we each have unique thumbprints, eye prints, and voiceprints, our hearts beat in slightly different patterns. It's amazing that out of all the billions of people who've ever lived, no one has ever had a heartbeat exactly like yours.

In the same way, God has given each of us a unique emotional "heartbeat" that races when we think about the subjects, activities, or circumstances that interest us. We instinctively care about some things and not about others. These are clues to where you should be serving.

Another word for heart is passion. There are certain subjects that you feel deeply passionate about and others that you couldn't care less about. Some experiences turn you on and capture your attention, while others turn you off or bore you to tears. These reveal the nature of your heart; listen for inner promptings that can point to the ministry God intends for you to have.

When you were growing up you may have discovered that you were intensely interested in some subjects that no one else in your family cared about.

Where did those interests come from? They came from God!

God had a purpose in giving you these inborn interests. Your emotional heartbeat is a key to understanding your shape for service. Don't ignore your interests; consider how they might be used for God's glory. There is a reason that you love to do these things.

Listen for inner promptings that can point to the ministry God intends for you to have.

January 27, 2010 - SERVING FROM THE HEART

Serving from the heart

From now on if you listen obediently to the commandments that I am commanding you today, love God, your God, and serve him with everything you have within you, he'll take charge of sending the rain at the right time .... Deuteronomy 11:13-14.    Repeatedly, the Bible says to "serve the Lord with all your heart." God wants you to serve him passionately, not dutifully. People rarely excel at tasks they don't enjoy doing or feel passionate about. God wants you to use your natural interests to serve him and others.

How do you know when you're serving God from your heart?

The first telltale sign is enthusiasm. When you're doing what you love to do, no one has to motivate you, or challenge you, or check up on you. You do it for the sheer enjoyment. You don't need rewards, or applause, or to be paid, because you love serving in this way.  The opposite is also true: When you don't have a heart for what you're doing, you're easily discouraged.

One characteristic of serving God from your heart is effectiveness: whenever you do what God wired you to love to do, you get good at it. Passion drives perfection. If you don't care about a task, it is unlikely that you'll excel at it.

On the other hand, the highest achievers in any field are those who do it because of passion, not duty or profit.

We've all heard people say, "I took a job I hate in order to make a lot of money, so someday I can quit and do what I love to do." That's a big mistake. Don't waste your life in a job that doesn't express your heart.  Remember, the greatest things in life are not things. Meaning is far more important than money. The richest man in the world once said, "A simple life in the fear-of-God is better than a rich life with a ton of headaches" (Proverbs 15:16).

Don't settle for achieving "the good life," because the good life is not good enough. Ultimately, it doesn't satisfy. You can have a lot to live on, and still have nothing to live for. Aim instead for "the better life" -- serving God in a way that expresses your heart.

Figure out what you love to do -- that which God gave you a heart for -- and then do it for his glory!

January 28, 2010 - TRAP

It is a trap for a man to dedicate something rashly and only later to consider his vows. Proverbs 20:25 (NIV)

Have you ever ...
... promised to deliver by a set date and later regretted it?
... volunteered for a job you had no idea would take so long?
... agreed to a deal that looked great but wasn't?
... accepted an invitation you wish you hadn't?

Eventually, we all learn by experience a basic law of life: It's always easier to get in than get out! The Bible says, "It is a trap for a man to dedicate something rashly and only later to consider his vows." (Proverbs 20:25).

There are three common commitment traps:
The Money Trap -- It's always easier to get into debt than out of debt! It's always easier to borrow than to pay it back.
The Partnership Trap -- It's always easier to get into a partnership, or a relationship, than to get out of one!
The Time Trap -- It's always easier to fill your schedule than to fulfill it! You can get so many irons in the fire that you put out the fire!

The solution: remember what the Bible says; don't make rash vows.

In other words, choose your commitments carefully; think before you speak;  under-promise and over-deliver. With this, you'll build a reputation as a   person of your word.

January 29, 2010 -  CONTENTMENT

God's Provision: Contentment

But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. 1 Timothy 6:6-7

God promises to meet all your financial needs, if you (1) ask him for help and (2) learn to be content --

If you've ever seen a baby born, you know they don't come into the world with a whole lot. They're not holding onto cigars, cars and a stock portfolio. They don't come into the world with anything but a little umbilical cord and that quickly gets cut.

And then, at your funeral, you don't take anything with you. The Bible teaches that we should learn to be content.

What is contentment? Contentment means my happiness is not dependent upon circumstances. Most people get caught into "when" thinking: "When I get a  certain job ... When I can retire ... When I get the house paid off ...    When I get the bills paid off ... then I'll be happy!"

God says, "No, once you get there, you'll always want something else." If  you don't learn contentment, you'll never be happy. You'll always want more.

"Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth. After all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can't take anything with us when we leave it. So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content." (1 Timothy 6:6-8)

Tomorrow we'll look at faithful giving, another condition for answered prayer.

From the bible we know that GOD is 'NUMBER ONE'.

Be sure that you start EVERY day with " NUMBER ONE ".

Then everything you do, counts. If you forget the " NUMBER ONE " then sorry, all your work is a big zero...

God's Provision: Faithful Giving

Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the best part of everything you produce. Proverbs 3:9

God promises to meet all your financial needs, if you (1) ask him for help; (2) learn to be content; and (3) practice giving in faith --

There is a universal law called the principle of sowing and reaping. If I  sow criticism, I'm going to reap criticism. If I sow generosity, it's going to come back to me, and I'm going to reap generosity.

Every farmer knows this. A farmer has four sacks of seed in his barn and he looks at his empty field. He doesn't complain, "There's no crop! I wish there was a crop!" He just goes out and starts planting seed. When you have a need, plant a seed.

It seems illogical that when I have a need, I should give. That's why it  requires faith. God says, "My ways are not your ways."

Why did God set it up that way? Because God is a giver. He is the most generous giver in the universe, and God wants you to learn to be like him. He wants to build character in you.

The Bible says, "Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the best part of everything you produce." (Proverbs 3:9).  This is the principle of tithing. It's the principle that says every time I make $100 -- the first  $10 goes back to God.

Tithing is an act of worship. We're giving to God. We're saying, "All of  it came from you anyway." God says, "Put me first in your life and watch what I do." You may think you can't afford to tithe, but the reality is,  you can't afford not to.

Hungry not only for bread - but hungry for love. Naked not only for clothing - but naked for human dignity and respect. Homeless not only for want of a room of bricks - but homeless because of rejection.
