Beautiful Psalms

The Lord is Kind.

Psalm 143

1Hear my prayer, O Lord; give ear to my supplications in your faithfulness; answer me in your righteousness.

2Do not enter into judgment with your servant, for no one living is righteous before you.

3For the enemy has pursued me, crushing my life to the ground, making me sit in darkness like those long dead.

4Therefore my spirit faints within me; my heart within me is appalled.

5I remember the days of old, I think about all your deeds, I meditate on the works of your hands.

6I stretch out my hands to you; my soul thirsts for you like a parched land. Selah

7Answer me quickly, O Lord; my spirit fails. Do not hide your face from me, or I shall be like those who go down to the Pit.

8Let me hear of your steadfast love in the morning, for in you I put my trust. Teach me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.

9Save me, O Lord, from my enemies; I have fled to you for refuge.

10Teach me to do your will, for you are my God. Let your good spirit lead me on a level path.

11For your name’s sake, O Lord, preserve my life. In your righteousness bring me out of trouble.

12In your steadfast love cut off my enemies, and destroy all my adversaries, for I am your servant.

Psalm 139
« Reply #1 on: November 24, 2007, 11:11:29 PM »
Psalm 139

O Lord, you have searched me and known me.

2You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from far away.

3You search out my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways.

4Even before a word is on my tongue, O Lord, you know it completely.

5You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me.

6Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is so high that I cannot attain it.

7Where can I go from your spirit? Or where can I flee from your presence?

8If I ascend to heaven, you are there; if I make my bed in Sheol, you are there.

9If I take the wings of the morning and settle at the farthest limits of the sea,

10even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me fast.

11If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light around me become night,”

12even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is as bright as the day, for darkness is as light to you.

13For it was you who formed my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

14I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; that I know very well.

15My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth.

16Your eyes beheld my unformed substance. In your book were written all the days that were formed for me, when none of them as yet existed.

17How weighty to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them!

18I try to count them—they are more than the sand; I come to the end—I am still with you.

19O that you would kill the wicked, O God, and that the bloodthirsty would depart from me—

20those who speak of you maliciously, and lift themselves up against you for evil!

21Do I not hate those who hate you, O Lord? And do I not loathe those who rise up against you?

22I hate them with perfect hatred; I count them my enemies.

23Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts.

24See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Psalm 6
--
O LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger
       or discipline me in your wrath.

 2 Be merciful to me, LORD, for I am faint;
       O LORD, heal me, for my bones are in agony.

 3 My soul is in anguish.
       How long, O LORD, how long?

 4 Turn, O LORD, and deliver me;
       save me because of your unfailing love.

 5 No one remembers you when he is dead.
       Who praises you from the grave ?

 6 I am worn out from groaning;
       all night long I flood my bed with weeping
       and drench my couch with tears.

 7 My eyes grow weak with sorrow;
       they fail because of all my foes.

 8 Away from me, all you who do evil,
       for the LORD has heard my weeping.

 9 The LORD has heard my cry for mercy;
       the LORD accepts my prayer.

Psalm 8

  O LORD, our Lord,
       how majestic is your name in all the earth!
       You have set your glory
       above the heavens.

  From the lips of children and infants
       you have ordained praise
       because of your enemies,
       to silence the foe and the avenger.

  When I consider your heavens,
      the work of your fingers,
       the moon and the stars,
       which you have set in place,

  what is man that you are mindful of him,
       the son of man that you care for him?

  You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings
       and crowned him with glory and honor.

  You made him ruler over the works of your hands;
       you put everything under his feet:

  all flocks and herds,
       and the beasts of the field,

  the birds of the air,
       and the fish of the sea,
       all that swim the paths of the seas.

  O LORD, our Lord,
       how majestic is your name in all the earth!

The Lord Is Good

PSALM 32

I acknowledged my sin to you. I didn't hide my iniquity. I said, I will confess my transgressions to the Lord God, And you forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah.

 For this, let everyone who is godly pray to you in a time when you may be found. Surely when the great waters overflow, they shall not reach to him.

 You are my hiding place. You will preserve me from trouble. You will surround me with songs of deliverance.

 I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go. I will counsel you with my eye on you.

 Don't be like the horse, or like the mule, which have no understanding, Whose are controlled by bit and bridle, or else they will not come near to you.

 Many sorrows shall be to the wicked, But he who trusts in Yahweh, loving kindness shall surround him.

 Be glad in the Lord God, and rejoice, you righteous! Shout for joy, all you who are upright in heart!

Psalm 14

A Portrait of Sinners

The fool says in his heart,
"God does not exist."
They are corrupt; their actions are revolting.
There is no one who does good.
The Lord looks down from heaven on the human race
to see if there is one who is wise,
one who seeks God.

All have turned away;
all alike have become corrupt.
There is no one who does good,
not even one.

Will evildoers never understand?
They consume my people
as they consume bread;
they do not call on the Lord.

Then they will be filled with terror,
for God is with those who are righteous
You sinners frustrate the plans of the afflicted,
but the Lord is his refuge.

Oh, that Israel's deliverance would come from Zion!
When the Lord restores
His captive people,
Jacob will rejoice; Israel will be glad.

Psalm 15

A Description of the Godly

Lord, who can dwell in your tent?
Who can live on your Holy Mountain?

The one who lives honestly, says the Lord.
Practices righteousness.

And acknowledges the truth in his heart-
who does not slander with his tongue,
who does not harm his friend
or discredit his neighbor;
who despises the one rejected by the Lord,

But honors those who fear the Lord,
who keeps his word whatever the cost,
who does not lend his money at interest
or take a bribe against the innocent-
the one who does these things will never be moved.

Psalm 19

The Witness of Creation and Scripture

The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the sky proclaims the work of his Hands.
Day after day they pour out speech; night after night they communicate knowledge.

There is no speech; there are no words their voice is not heard.
Their message has gone out to all the earth; and their words to the ends of the inhabited world.

In the heavens, he has pitched a tent for the sun.
It is like a groom coming from the bridal chamber;
it rejoices like an athlete running a course.
It rises from one end of the heavens and circles to their other end;
nothing is hidden from its heat.

The instruction of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul;
the testimony of the Lord is trustworthy,
making the inexperienced wise.
The precepts of the Lord are right,
making the heart glad;
the commandment of the Lord is radiant,
making the eyes light up.

The FEAR of the Lord is pure,
enduring forever;
the ordinances of the Lord are reliable
and altogether righteous.

They are more desirable than gold
than an abundance of pure gold;
and sweeter than  honey
than honey dripping from the comb.
In addition, your servant is warned by them;
there is great reward in keeping them.

Who perceives his unintentional sins?
Cleanse me from my hidden faults.
Morever, keep Your servant from the willful sins;
do not let them rule over me.
Then I will be innocent,
and cleansed from blatant rebellion.
May the words of my mouth and the mediation of my heart
be acceptable to YOU,
LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.

you know lorenzo. i always start my prayer  for a rebound or confession of my known and unknown sins so that I will be back in fellowship with the Lord. I seldom pray, I am afriad the Lord would grant my wish/desire/etc...
if I would pray, it would come true. I was a visionary before I asked the Lord to get it out from me. Such gift i didn't like.

after the confession, I would be saying in visayan... "Salamat Ginoo sa imong gugma nga walay paglubad... sa imong grasya nga walay kahubsanan.....etc.."

sometimes, I would pray burning a cow manure. why? because the cow manure (the dried one)  is good for cleaning the environment. i don't have incense, so I choose dried cow manure...

I am touched by your personal anecdote, Leo. You are a shining example of a good Christian, pre, to know your own sins and recognize it and ask forgiveness. That is why you are given bounty of graces, because of your high spirit and your humble repentance. You know, Leo, not many can do that, many are too proud and head strong to give in. However, the fact that you can do that and still be a famous and well known journalist/media-man is a lesson to all of us Christians. Thank You for sharing with us your experiences, so that we may learn from it.

PS. I liked your anecdote on the dried cow dung. lol. Very environmental, and sincere at the same time. :)

Psalm 50

The mighty God, even the LORD, hath spoken, and called the earth from the rising of the sun unto the going down thereof.
Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God hath shined.
Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him.
He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that he may judge his people.
Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.
And the heavens shall declare his righteousness: for God is judge himself. Selah.
Hear, O my people, and I will speak; O Israel, and I will testify against thee: I am God, even thy God.
I will not reprove thee for thy sacrifices or thy burnt offerings, to have been continually before me.
I will take no bullock out of thy house, nor he goats out of thy folds.
For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills.
I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field are mine.
If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof.
Will I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats?
Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High:
And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.
But unto the wicked God saith, What hast thou to do to declare my statutes, or that thou shouldest take my covenant in thy mouth?
Seeing thou hatest instruction, and castest my words behind thee.
When thou sawest a thief, then thou consentedst with him, and hast been partaker with adulterers.
Thou givest thy mouth to evil, and thy tongue frameth deceit.
Thou sittest and speakest against thy brother; thou slanderest thine own mother’s son.
These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes.
Now consider this, ye that forget God, lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver.
Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God.

Psalm 4

Answer when I call, my saving God
In my troubles, you cleared a way;
show me favor; hear my prayer

How long will you people mock my honor,
love what is worthless, chase after lies?

Know that the Lord works wonders for the faithful;
the Lord hears when I call out
Tremble, and do not sin!
upon your beds ponder in silence

Offer fitting sacrifices and trust in the Lord

Many say, "May we see better times!
Lord, show us the light of your face!

But you have given my heart more joy
than they have when grain and wine abound

In peace I shall lie down and sleep
for you alone, Lord, make me secure.

The Blessings of the Just

The Blessings of the Just

Hallelujah!

Happy are those who fear the Lord,
who greatly delight in God's commands.
Their descendants shall be mighty in the land, a generation upright and blessed.

Wealth and riches shall be in their homes;
their prosperity shall endure forever.
They shine through the darkness, a light for the upright;
they are gracious, merciful, and just.

All goes well for those gracious in lending,
who conduct their affairs with justice.
They shall never be shaken;
the just shall be remembered forever.
They shall not fear an ill report;
their hearts are steadfast, trusting the Lord.

Their hearts are tranquil, without fear,
till at last they look down on their foes.
Lavishly they give to the poor;
their prosperity shall endure forever;
their horn shall be exalted in honor.

The wicked shall be angry to see this;
they will gnash their teeth and waste away;
the desires of the wicked come to nothing.

Psalm 112

The Word of the Lord,
