Former PBA star Dennis Espino will be arraigned today at the Regional Trial Court Branch 42 on charges of serious illegal detention and possession of firearms.
Yesterday, Espino was arrested by the police in Pampanga.
The charges arrest stemmed from a complaint by his former secretary, Mildred Eiman, who accused the player of locking her up for over a month for her failure to pay a debt amounting to P5,000.
Espino eluded arrest for more than eight months, which according to the police was due to his political connections in Pampanga.
"This is a big first step towards achieving justice for simple folk like Mildred Eiman, who only wanted to earn a decent living as Espino’s farm secretary, but was treated unjustly by the former basketball star.†This was the statement of Terry Ridon, Eiman’s defense lawyer in the ‘retaliation suit’ filed by Espino against his former secretary.
