The Holy Name University Falcons squeaked past the University of Bohol Flying Lemures, 70-69 to grab the solo lead in the Bohol Schools Athletic Association basketball tournament last night at the Talibon sports complex.

After defeating the Mater Dei College Seagulls in their opening game and the Bohol Institute of Technology Beavers last week the Holy Name University Falcons once again defied odds, after trailing the entire game by as much as 18 points. In what looked like an easy win for the Lemures, the Falcons started the 4th quarter with a 10-0 run lead by Ian Ceasar Abraham who ignited the Falcons defense by applying a fullcourt press that panicked the UB offense. In the last 2 minutes the Falcons manage to trim down the lead to only by as point 65-64. With the timely insertion of streak shooter Jr Gabod who sank a three-pointer with only 50 seconds. HNU's Stephen Caballo fouled UB's Reyes who sank both his charities to tie the game with 20 seconds left, HNU's Jade Romanos made a basket to gain back the lead at 69-67. The UB fouled MC Polestico of HNU who split his charities. UB made a final attempt with 7 seconds left in the game but both Reyes and Garcia missed their three point attempts.

“I think our intensity gave us the win, everybody stepped up that's why we picked up our defense in the last minutes of the game”, said Justin Kibir of the Falcons who dedicated the game to his late father who was celebrating his death anniversary.
