It depends. If it is in the U.S.A.,I have a friend who is a retired cop and says jail here has good food, big tv with cable, free medical. Here in the Philippines I would be scared to be put in jail just because of my principle.I better not take my chances.I would swallow my pride and let a top- notch lawyer the best money can buy {If I can afford it} defend me.

ideally, yes, because it's the decent thing to do.  (in the league of galileo or journalist judith miller in the cia operative valerie plame case.)  being confronted with such reality though is another matter.  i can't say now that i would have real strength to serve jail time.

Depends on three things:

1. If the issue is on a national level.
2. If I know I am right.
3. If there is media coverage.

If the jail destination is in the Philippines, I would not.

You starve in the jail because the prison wardens steal your food allowance.

Sa Muntinlupa, luboton daw ka sa mga manyakis.

I've seen some jails in the Philippines. 30 to 40 persons in one small room. Pait.

I've heard something like this, Mike, about the poor conditions of the jails in the Philippines.

Bran, try to visit sa Bohol Provincial Jail when you are in Bohol. Luoy kaayo ang kahimtang. You can also visit sa provincial jail sa Cebu.

If you are in the county jail in the US, it is like living in a club house compared to the people in the 3rd world. The inmates' dormitories are equipped with television, telephones, 24/7 availability of medical care, served with foods supervised by dieaticians, regular recreation, church service and all forms of amenities.

A book cart for their reading requirements, free mailing envelopes and stamps for writing if you cant afford to buy, free toiletries and free laundry of uniforms and beddings twice a week. free photocopy of legal materials, and free phone calls to attorneys.

Nice life eh.

Even if luxury awaits one in jail, the prospect of one's freedom being curtailed is still forbidding. In this regard, doing all things possible to avoid being jailed should be a good principle to live by... ;D
