CATHOLIC Church leaders expressed opposition on the proposal of a women’s party-list group, 1-Babae Astig Aasenso (1-ABAA), to have a 10-year expiry on marriage.
“This is an overall scheme. These are tentacles to a grand plan to really destroy the family,†said Monsignor Pedro Quitorio, Media Director of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).

He noted that the proposed bill is connected with the controversial Reproductive Health Bill or House Bill 5043, which has been opposed by the Church as well.
“It’s an overall scheme that has something to do with the RH Bill. They want to destroy the family. They want to promote bills like divorce because it is not allowed as it will destroy the family,†Quitorio added.
For his part, Caloocan Bishop Deogracias Iniguez said the proposal would not only ruin the Filipino family but would affect the morality of the society.
“This will be detrimental to our society. We should not pay notice to proposals that are very immoral,†he said.
Basilan Bishop Martin Jumoad meanwhile said the proposal is part of the group’s propaganda as they want to make noise.
“Maybe they just want to join in the elections…I hope they’ll think of a new strategy that is well thought of,†he said.
The 1-Babae Astig Aasenso party-list group has made the proposal for a 10-year expiry on marriage. It wants a 10-year expiry on marriage, saying such would allow a couple to reassess the status of their relationship. (FP/Sunnex)
