How do you respond to criticism?

Linkback: https://tubagbohol.mikeligalig.com/index.php?topic=28383.0
John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

How do you respond to criticism?

Criticism can either break you or make you.It can hurt you if it is not true or make you correct the mistake,to be a better person. So be careful and think twice before you critisize someone.

it depends from the person who critizes me, if it is valid then it is okay if not, i could size him/her and respond accordingly. This is a trait somewhat complicated in Pinas, since a person must save his face,  one must exercise precaution but in Europe you can voice your criticism no offense as long as there is substance in it.

Yes, saving face is deeply-rooted in Oriental societies, an expression of "honor culture" which most Westerners find strange, to say the least.

well, smile lang  :) :) :) and deadma!  8) 8) 8) I know who I am, but if it's a constructive criticism, aw I will consider and think about it. Pro kasagaran man gud criticisms are given to pull people down, so for me I'll just let it pass. I always remember these lines:

" If anyone tries to pull you down, it goes to show that you're on top of them."

People who are trying to pull me down are the insecured ones, and those insecured people? Naa ko message for them:

" INSECURITY REIGNS IN AN UGLY HEART OF AN EMPTY BRAIN."  :) ;) :) ;)

I agree, Anne. :)

But for me, I just pray for those who have a tendency to have evil tongues and speak with deceit. They cannot help it man, as it is in their nature. We, must be the better. We delight in knowing that we, though we are small like the mustard seed, can make even mountains move.

In Christ, all is possible.

Let them criticize and let them talk. For all they have is talk.

Talking and Doing is totally different. :)

matud pa ni Manay, depende sa tao... there are only few people nga pwede mu-criticize nako but other than that, jealousy na oi

People like that, my dear, are not worth your time or your concern. Consider them as insects that do not matter, what benefit does it give you to listen to their chiding and their unproductive talks?

For me, throughout college, and medical school i had to deal with people who were against me, jealous man sila gud.
Pero for me, i dont care, you just have to put in the mindset that we will always be approached and made fun of by devils in good clothing. We deal with this as it is part of life, part of the human experience. If they are jealous of you, and speak ill of you, it is for the fact that you possess what they do not and that you are doing something right that they cannot accomplish or lack that ability. So, since it is in their nature to hate what they cannot have or cannot attain, they will manifest that same character. It is a defensive psychological action on their part.

So what do we do? If they are negative, then we must be positive. Ignore the negative and focus on the positive end result and the goal, the objective.

Ingon man to si Jesus Christ "Blessed are you when they speak all manner of evil against you because of me..."

Better to suffer an inustice by man but reap the Glory in Heaven. For I guarantee, that the Shepperd will throw the weeds to be burned and the wheat to be harvested.

dili aplikabol ang jesus christ sa criticism dinhe sa Germany. Tingali defense mechanism nako kay foreigner ko, babaye pa jud. Please don´t forget that there is rampant mail-order brides here, and prejudice and cliche´s exist.

There is a discussion culture so pwede maglalis.

I told my kids not to get in trouble just tell me and I will face the parents and the school director.

bisan sa simbahan katoliko, mokanta gani ka ug German mosipat kay mangutana kabasa ka ug song book?
Kon ting lamano na Peace be with you, laktawan ka kay lain ang imong dagway. I complained to my parish priest and told him to bring this issue in his homily, he did and they slowly accepted me as a loud asian singing parish member, (anad gud sa karaoke)ha ha ha ha.

Manay, I am sorry that you go through such blatant discrimination, but you know what, it is okay because despite the discrimination of others, you have raised a fine family. You raised your daughter well and your son well. Always enrich the family life with religious vocation and faith matters, as it augments any weakness (in anyone).

As for the prejudices of others, it is a sign of ignorance.

Keep on pushing forward. :)

Bran.

This reminds me of an anecdote.

One time in college a group of us undergrads attended a Tri-Beta Meeting, the national Honors Biology Fraternity, and a group of white-Americans were poking fun of a classmate of mine who was a female Vietnamese-American. The reasons for it was because of her thick Vietnamese accent and her physical features, I was so distrubed by it. I could not help but take the defense of Tam (her name). And these gentlemen aimed to become doctors?

It is amazing how turn of events manifests.

These guys who used to make fun of Tam ended up dropping the Pre-Medicine track due to the difficulty of our program and switched to economics and business, whereas Tam and I and many others finished it and proceeded to Medicine Proper. So now, I always think, just because you are limited via language barriers or physical appearance, that should not be a limiting factor or a reason for you to diverge from your goal and objective, rather should be a motivational factor.

Tam is now a 3rd year medical student who is also in a dual MBA program for Health Care Administration. She goals to become a Pediatric Oncologist, and I am sure that she will be a great one. She may be small, she may have an accent, but that girl...has a big brain. Intelligent.

She moved mountains. :)

if it's a creative criticism, the kind that tends to help rather than merely disparage, then i would think of ways to correct myself or my mistake or extend my apologies if need me.

if it's just a putdown, i simply ignore and think less of the critic whose agenda could be harmful to my health.

discrimination is another story, though.

My response will  depend on the type of criticism as encountered;
constructive criticism or destructive criticism and  oftentimes
the implied criticism will manifest through non-verbal prejudice
   attitude.
Schisms can be be settled in a diplomatic way unless one refused to do so,
and continue to carry the chip on his/her shoulder.
I'm glad the Lord does not discriminate  irregardless of what race
    a person was born into.

Constructive criticism is that which is accompanied by
    solitude, tenderness and prayers.
Destructive criticism is that which is accompanied by
    harshness, bitterness, jealousy and pride.
