Hahaha that what I was thinking. Because even my aunt, my mom's sister, doesnt really hold on to the kind of superstitions that my parents hold on to. Its very interesting tho because they're medical professionals and its not like they can explain their superstitions scientifically--but they hold on to it anyways.
One other example was this summer we went to central Pennsylvania to sight see the Amish region, and visit the historic train stations. We stayed at an Indian-owned hotel and my parents were angry at me because I recommended we stay at the hotel (note that most of the other hotels were already booked or occupied)--and when my mom and I went to the register to pay for the two rooms--my mom immediately noticed that the Indian lady who was servicing us had a black dot on her tongue. I dont know why, but when we went back to the car--my mom told my dad this and they both were angry. Something about people with black dots on their tongue--I dont know. All I know was that I was really annoyed at how they were treating me--as if it was my fault that we were staying in a hotel that was owned by a woman who had a black dot on her tongue. What is the importance of that black dot anyway?
All I know is that the next day when we drove off, my mom and my dad told all of us to brush our arms, our heads, our faces, and our shoulders. It was ridiculous. As a scientist and as a realist---I couldn't believe what I was seeing.
Maybe you guys can explain to me about the meaning of brushing one's arms, torso, face and shoulders after leaving an area that was owned by a person who had a black dot? Please. I'd appreciate it.
