Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip fired two mortar rockets into the Israeli territory from the enclave early Sunday, according to the army.

The bombs fell in an open area and there were no reports of damage or injury to residents in the area, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Spokesman's Office said in a statement.

The Israeli Air Force had quickly responded to several such attacks in recent weeks, hitting what the army said launching crews and related targets in the coastal enclave.

The IDF Home Front Command (HFC) plans to test out a new cellphone text message system meant to warn individuals in a specific area of an incoming missile attack.

The army said that the system will send short messages alerts in Arabic, English, Hebrew, and Russian to people in the center of the country.

When the GPS-linked "Deer Horn" system was first unveiled in early 2011, an IDF operations officer told Xinhua that it was capable of accurately figuring out where a rocket fired at Israel would land, alert the population in the specific area via map-referenced mobile phone numbers, send them an alert via SMS (short message service), and override television and radio broadcasts to warn the public at large before the rocket hit targets.
