Highly radioactive water has leaked again from a liquid waste tank at the damaged Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power station, operator Tokyo Electric Power Co. said Friday.
The salty water, which is generated in the process of decontaminating highly tainted water, seeped out of a steel connection of the tank to slightly drip onto its concrete foundation, said the utility, known as TEPCO.
TEPCO stopped the leakage by fastening bolts in the connection, while putting steel plates to contain a further outflow.
It is the second such instance after some 10 liters of such water, which contains high levels of radioactive strontium, leaked from another waste tank at the plant on Jan. 10.
