Corporate News : SAMSUNG Electronics Launches New Environmental-friendly MonitorSeoul, Korea, April7, 1997: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., has come out with a new SyncMaster model monitor that satisfies the TCO 95 standards. The new model, available in 15" and 17" versions, will replace the existing SyncMaster line.
The Braun tube surface has a multiple-layer coating that greatly reduces electromagnetic emissions so a protective screen is not necessary. The coating includes a layer of superfine indium-tin oxide particles and a layer of improved silicate. It both absorbs electromagnetic emissions and reduces surface glare, reducing eye fatiqueness. Moreover, a special electromagnetic wave elimination circuit has been built in to detect electromagnetic emissions on the Braun tube surface and keep them to a minimum. The case of the monitor is made out of flame retardant plastic that generates virtually no carcinogens when being recycled.Also, the wrapping material is biodegradable plastic sheet.
As explained above, this new environmental-friendly product not only satisfied the TCO 95 requirements, but other recognized standards such as the German "Blue Angel".
Many improvements have been made to the picture quality of the next-generation monitor. The flat Braun tube has a maximum resolution of 1,600 x 1,200 pixels and a dot pitch of 0.26mm. A super-precise electron gun creates a very sharp focus, to eliminated on-screen flicker, the screen is scanned 160 times a second.
In addition multimedia functions have been greatly boosted. A plug-and-play function supports DDC 2B+ and 2B.Also, when the new SyncMaster is connected with a Macintosh computer, it can also be used with any other PC with the support of an adapter.
The operational keys of the monitor have been simplified for greater user friendliness. On-screen display software allows for easy operation of various functions from an on-screen menu; the on-screen menu software offers information in five different languages.
The SyncMaster, offered in a modern streamlined look, are already out on the market in 15" and 17" versions, and with a 21" model and other sizes soon to be launched.
