Corporate News : SAMSUNG Electronics System LSI Division Sales to Break W1 Trillion in `97Seoul, Korea, February 26, 1997: The System LSI (Large Scale Integrated Circuit) Division of Samsung Electronics Co. has announced its 1997 business plans, which includes a sales target of US$1.2 billion. In addition, concentrated investments of W230 billion will be made in new as well as existing strategic areas for the year.
The division has been restructured into 3 main units.
1.Growth Business: includes Alpha Chip, MDL and other future generators of high growth.
2.Expansion Business: includes ASIC and multimedia.
3.Mature Business: includes microcontrollers and power elements.
Each unit`s role is to contribute to the finalization of the company`s products and in the process, create new demand. At the same time, the division will serve as the main headquarters of the strategic business.
Details of the System LSI Division`s strategy:
1.Better respond to customer needs and diverse applications by strengthening systems-related technology.
2.Improve design and production technology of the micro LSI systems which will help in accommodating to the small lot production.
3.Develop new products and strengthen competitiveness, through the expansion of joint development activities with leading domestic and overseas systems companies.
The Alpha chip, MPEG and MDL are the main strategic areas of the System LSI division for the 21st century. As mentioned above, through its strategic alliances with industry leaders, Samsung hopes to generate the best design and systems available. Also, to serve customers continuously with `on-time` quality products, memory fabrication technology and marketing functions will be integrated into the System LSI Division.
