Aided by six boxers from Escalante City, three of them female, Negros Occidental's District 1 captured the 2nd Negros First Gov. Alfredo G. Marañon, Jr. Boxing Cup held at the Silay Covered Court here last Sunday.

District 1 collected eight (8) gold medals and seven (7) silvers to wrap the title against five other districts in the province.

District 4 represented by Bago City boxers, once the country’s boxing capital, collected seven (7) gold and three (3) silver medals to place 1st runner-up; while District 2 comprised of Cadiz and Sagay Cities and the municipality of Manapla placed 2nd runner-up with five (5) gold and three silver medals.

District 6 composed of Cauayan, Hinobaan, Ilog, Kabankalan and Sipalay (CHICKS area) collected three gold and two silver medals; District 5 had three golds and one silver medal, while District 3 had a gold and nine silver medals.

The District 1 boxers were Greg Pableo who defeated Talisay Jimlo Chua in the Kids 26 kgs; Feedielyn Mantalaya over Socorro Talamante of Himamaylan City in the Female 36 kgs; Baby Johmil Casiple over Christian Calapardo of Sipalay City in the Female 44 kgs; Sarah Jean Mag-osara over Renalyn Soberano of Murcia in the Female 48 kgs; Sheila Mae Mag-osara over Rosebelle Laurilla of Murcia in Female 50 kgs and John Mahinay who scored a first round referee-stop-contest over Jaypee Rivas of Candoni in the Elite 46 kgs.

Two other boxers who gifted District 1 with gold medals were Don Salvador Benedicto Elmer Duoma who won on points over Kyle Malunes of Cadiz City in the Kids 32 kgs. and San Carlos City's Carlo Peñalosa who outpointed Cadiz City's Eric Hulleza in the Elite 49 kgs. Peñalosa was also adjudged the best boxer in the division.

District 4 winners were boxers Neil Tambanillo who won over District 1's Richard Patoc in the Kids 30kgs. He was adjudge best boxer in the division. Jasper Anida over Mike Gian Duoma of District 3 in the Schools Boys 38 kgs; Roselyn Gamo over Roxanne Alisna in Female 46 kgs; Argie Alabado over Murcia Elmer Liboon in the Youth 52 kgs; Ronaldo Saturno over Nestor Bautista of Murcia in the Elite 56 kgs; and James Palicte over Romeo Redondo in the Elite 60 kgs.

The gold medalist received cash prizes or P1, 800 starting from winning the elimination, quarterfinals and semifinals. The eliminated boxers, meanwhile, received P300 each.

The champion team received a cash prize of P5,000 and trophy; the 1st runner-up P3,000 plus trophy and 2nd runner-up with P2,000 plus trophy.
