Palace acknowledges Pinoys' hardships
MANILA (23 June 2005) -- Malacañang has acknowledged the growing hardships of the Filipinos amidst the economic and political turmoil that the country is experiencing.
Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye made the statement after the Social Weather Survey (SWS) report in May showed that 57 percent of the Filipino household heads regarded their household as poor.
Bunye, who is also the Presidential Spokesman, pointed out that no amount of political squabbles and attempts to discredit President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's government will stand the way to improve the living conditions of ordinary people, especially in the face of rising oil prices.
The Palace official assured the Filipino nation that the Arroyo Government is continuously seeking all means to lessen the impact of socio-economic pressures by growing the economy.
He said the present administration remain focused in achieving the economic goals as it pushes for the generation of more investments and job opportunities, institution of reforms to maintain fiscal stability, and the implementation of pro-poor programs. (PIA-MMIO)
