Davao City (2 December 2005) -- The Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP) will spearhead the annual celebration of the 18th Urban Poor Solidarity Week on December 2-8, 2005 in pursuance to Presidential Proclamation No.367 S. 1988.
With this years' theme "Maralitang Tagalungsod: Pasulong sa Matatag na Republika," major activities will
focus on the conduct of consultations, evaluation and assessments of the various programs/projects of the many stakeholders of development for the urban poor sector namely by the National Government Agencies, Local Government Units, Non-Government Organizations (NGOs), Civic Organizations, Peoples Organizations, and urban poor assemblies/alliances.
A Mindanao-wide area based consultation/conference in 12 major cities/urban centers is simultaneously being held beginning November 29, 2005 to December 3, 2005. The main objective of this activity is to assess and appraise the status and profile of the various urban poor development related programs/projects of the various stakeholders in the locality.
The Urban Poor Solidarity Week activities will be culminated with the "Multi-Stakeholders Forum" to be held on December 6, 2005 at the NCCC Mall, Ground Floor, Matina, Davao City.
The whole day activities will showcase the photo exhibits on the various programs of the stakeholders, provision of basic social services and referrals cum consultations, Multi-media presentation of several civic organizations' programs on housing and shelter and related community development assistance program by Habitat for Humanity Philippines, Gawad Kalinga-Couples For Christ, Philippines Assistance for Community and Family (PACAF) the Housing and Urban Development Council (HUDCC) XI and the Kapit Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan (KALAHI) convenor.
The Multi-stakeholders
forum will highlight the presentation of the rapid assessment outputs of the area-based consultations conducted earlier. A panel of reactors from the concerned agencies both from government and private sector will give their share of comments related to appropriate interventions in the form of policies, programs and projects commitments geared towards addressing the existing issues, concerns, gaps and policy recommendations of the urban poor sector.
