"Northern Samar strengthens partnership with Unicef
By Ailene N. Diaz
Catarman, Northern Samar (1 December 2005) -- The children of Northern Samar will continue to benefit from the UNICEF's Country Program for Children. According to Neciforo Rubenecia Jr., acting provincial planning and development coordinator, the UNICEF has decided to implement the Sixth Country Program for Children (CPC VI) in the province. This is a continuation of the Fifth Country Program for Children (CPC V) being implemented by UNICEF in selected provinces nationwide.
Rubenecia stressed that the decision to continue the program was based on the good performance of the province in terms of targets met. This was largely due to the guidance and support of Governor Raul A. Daza and the cooperation of partner agencies involved in the implementation of the program.
The Country Program for Children gives priority to children in the depressed areas of the province.
Projects being implemented are along the areas of advocacy, protection of children in armed conflicts, health, water and sanitation, education, local governance and information.
The Country Program for Children also focuses on the rights of the children. The provincial government of Northern Samar with the provincial planning and development office as CPC VI secretariat monitors the implementation of the projects being handled by different institutions, organizations and agencies in the province.
These partner agencies are the different Local Government Units, government agencies like the Department of Health, University of Eastern Philippines, Department of Education, Northern Samar, Northern Samar Provincial Health Office and some non-government organizations operating in the province.
