Tacloban City (2 December 2005) -– In recognition of the vital work done by masons to our country, ‘galing Mason Program (‘gMP) was launched by HOLCIM Philippines, Inc., a private entity partnering with the government in uplifting social and moral values in our communities.
The program was
conceptualized as tribute to Filipino masons with primary aim to provide a venue for masons to enhance their knowledge, skills, employability and livelihood opportunities at the same time promote a positive image of masons and their
trade.
Being a skills development and recognition program for masons, a 7-day skills training cum production assessment and certification program, a 3-day masonry skills competition and an annual search for the Most Outstanding Masons in the Philippines – the ‘galing Mason Award (‘gMA) – are conducted.
This year, Eastern Visayas was added to the HOCIM’s list of regions as recipient of this program with the support of the Technical Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Region 8, the government counterpart.
A roadshow and launching of the program was held at the Ritz Tower de Leyte, Tacloban City on November 21, 2005.
Ms. Terry Cruz of HOLCIM Philippines, Inc. gave the overview of the program and the mechanics of the ‘galing Mason Award to the invited prospects of the program and the Tacloban-based private media personalities as well.
