Four Tindahan natin operators granted loans by Tacloban gov't
Tacloban City (October 1 2006) -- Thanks to the F4 Fund Loan Assistance of the Tacloban City Government, four (4) Tindahan Natin operators will now be able to make available rice and noodles at prices affordable to the masses.
Ms. Catherine Janz Sikoy of Kimro said that during the Flag Ceremony of the City government on September 28, Mayor Alfredo Romualdez together with National Food Authority (NFA) Region 8 Director Benjamin Marta, the Tacloban City Cooperative Development and Livelihood Assistance Office and the City Social Welfare and Development Office, handed the P19,800.00 loan assistance to the four Tindahan Natin operators. The loan will be payable in ten months with an annual interest of 6% or a total of P2,000 plus.
Ms. Sicoy informed that the operator-beneficiaries are Mrs. Fanila Dotillos (Brgy. 83, San Jose), Mrs. Lucila Dialca (Brgy.103, Palanog), Mr.Rafael Manhuyod (Brgy. Kawayan), and Mrs. Rosita Elveña (Brgy. 59, Picas).
Each of the operators will be given 20 sacks of rice (50 kls/each) and 5 boxes of noodles. Rice will be sold at an affordable price of P18.00 per kilo and noodles will have a corresponding price bulletin.
NFA Director Benjamin Marta said that the selling price in the Tindahan Natin will be monitored by NFA to insure that no violations will be made by the operators. NFA. Director Marta added that of the 550 Tindahan Natin targeted in Region 8, 139 are already operational.
The Tindahan Natin is one of the projects under the Kapit Bisig sa Kahirapan – Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDDS), the flagship poverty alleviation program of the Arroyo administration.
This National Government initiative aims to provide financial assistance to small entrepreneurs so that they will be able to basic commodities like rice and noodles at a very affordable price to the more disadvantaged people in the depressed areas.
Mayor Romualdez said that as a businessman, he has had apprehension on the capacity of the operator-beneficiaries to sustain the Tindahan Natin operation because of some stereotype attitudes of Filipinos. Experience, however, taught him that with enough cooperation and unity in helping monitor the projects, it is possible.
“This is another good program of President Arroyo,” Mayor Romualdez said. “It is the responsibility of everyone concerned to see to it that its implementation is sustained.” (PIA
