CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan, Jan. 26, 2012 (PIA) -- Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) has allocated a total of P1.1 billion for its scholarship program which will initially give jobs to 45,500 trainees upon graduation.
Speaking in the opening of the Central Luzon Regional Skills Competition yesterday here, TESDA Director General Joel Villanueva said P500 million was allotted to the training program on business process outsourcing where 65,000 trainees will be enrolled into.
He said 70 percent or 45,500 of the trainees will be automatically employed in call centers which have continued to boom in the country, absorbing graduates and the unemployed with favorable compensation.
“Technical and vocational students should not be disparaged and discriminated. It is easier to land jobs if you are a TESDA graduate than a graduate of a two-year course,” said Villanueva.
The remaining P600 million will be allocated to training programs on tourism, semiconductor, agriculture and construction.
