LEGAZPI CITY - Bicol's most popular dish, the pinangat (gabi leaves cooked from thick, fresh coconut milk) could one day be sold in cans in stores and supermarkets, nationwide and overseas.
"This is one of the most interesting areas of investment broached by our kababayans from Hawaii," Director Raul Calleja of the Presidential Commission on Bicol Tourism - Special Development Project (PCST--SDP) said.
The proposal came after 25 members of the Filipino Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii (FCCH) made a 12-hour visit here, where they met with local executives and businessmen to explore possible areas of investments.
During a forum, Ms. Hilda Quindara, general manager of Hawaii Food Products, a leading food processing company in state of Hawaii, brought out the idea of putting up a pinangat canning plant in Albay and in other areas in Bicol.
"The group also expressed their interest to enter into a joint venture in construction, import-export, food processing, waste management and even farming," Calleja added.
The visit dubbed "Balik Bikol" is the 17th Trade Mission of the members of FCCH who will also be visiting Metro Manila, Subic Bay, and Laoag, Ilocos Norte until November 21.
FCCH president Rey Pardo, who hails from Malinao, Albay, said that despite the current situation, the economic fundamentals in the country remain sound. (CTAmoJPIA)
