Four farmers trapped in a river island when the Tagoloan River in Misamis Oriental overflowed due to Typhoon Neneng were rescued by the De Oro Mountaineer Explorers (DOME).
According to the Municipal Disaster Coordinating Council (MDCC) led by Tagoloan Town Mayor Bambi Emano, the overspill/flashflood affected 31 families in Barangays Mohon, Natumolan and Sta. Cruz.
The victims are temporarily sheltered at barangay halls–turned evacuation centers in the affected areas and were immediately given relief goods by the municipal social welfare development office and barangay officials.
Meanwhile, as of noontime, October 4, the number of victims of flashflood/ surging coastal waters triggered by Neneng in Balingasag town, Misamis Oriental rose to 204 families or 996 family members living in Barangays Napaliran, Talusan, Waterfall Lingangao, Cogon and Kibanban.
According to the Balingasag MDCC, 120 families were evacuated and are temporarily sheltered at the Napaliran Elementary School, municipal gym and Balingasag Central School.
A total of 18 houses were either totally or partially damaged, estimated at P240,000. Assorted food commodities and used clothing were initially provided by the provincial government, municipal government and Sangguniang Kabataan Federation of Balingasag.
The MDCC continues to solicit food commodities, housing materials, medicines and more relocation sites for the victims. Essential services like water supply, transportation, communications and electricity/power continue to be available.
