Talisay City marks Women's Month; skills training highlighted
Negros Occ. (31 March 2010) -- About 350 women from the city of Talisay recently took part in the "Walk for Women's Rights" with a theme "Women Take Back the Night" to highlight the struggle of the women as they face domestic violence such as rape and physical abuse.
Talisay Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Person and Livelihood Development Officer Rose Tuvilla said the city has loudly expressed its support for the cause of women through various programs and implementation of laws for their benefit.
The city, she said, has put it place mechanisms to protect them against violence.
With the national theme "Babae, Tagumpay ka ng Bayan," the city held a training on developing the spirit of entrepreneurship last March 13. Among the skills taught were fashion jewelry making, rug making and slippers accessories designing.
On March 17 t0 19, a training on hair cutting, manicure-pedicure and foot spa was conducted while a half-day lecture on money management was also held last March 22. (PIA-LO
