BY CARLA GOMEZ (printed in 2002)
Bacolod Bishop Vicente Navarra yesterday said a meeting will be held between President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and the Peace Advocates of Negros who are calling for the inclusion of a supplementary agreement in a peace pact between the government and Rebolusyonaryong Partido ng Manggagawa-Pilipinas/Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade.
Navarra met with Arroyo yesterday to raise the concerns of the peace advocates on the agreement inked during the Estrada administration.
He said the president has agreed to a status quo on the agreement before a meeting to be held soon with representatives of PAN.
Meanwhile, she has not made any decision on the peace agreement yet.
The draft supplemental agreement, among others, proposes a clear definition of hostilities that should be stopped, the imposition of existing rules on the issuance of permits to carry firearms;
The release of political prisoners subject to applicable laws and Department of Justice supervision, the dropping of charges according to prescribed procedure, the deactivation of armed insurgents and the surrender of firearms;
Grant of reintegration fund subject to applicable audit rules, the implementation of proposed project by government agencies, the formal start of substantive discussions on proposed reforms and the expansion of the Joint Monitoring Enforcement Committee to seven members, with three coming from the private sector.*CPG"
